(1.1) Summary
The continent of Illyria is at peace for the first time in recorded history. The Lyvian Empire and the Riverian Empire have finally ceased their age old war. Arkans are no longer contained to Arkanis. The races of Illyria are prospering. But how long will this peace last? Will all stay as it is? Only time will tell.

(2.1) Races
Humans - The youngest, weakest, shortest lived, and most populous race of Illyria. Divided into two nations, humans have spent most of their history at war. Only for the past decade have they known peace. While magic use is not innate in humans, they are quite capable of learning to use it. Almost all humans can use the simplest of magic. Magic with significant power can be achieved with dedication and specialized training. While Riverian magic is “more pure”, Lyvians practice the use of magically-powered weapons. Lyvians tend to rely on their weaponry to fight, rather than magic itself. While their equipment makes them formidable opponents, even when compared to an Arkan, they are significantly weaker when disarmed. Average life span varies from 40 to 70 depending on residence.
Dragons - The oldest and strongest of the races of Illyria. Dragons are capable of having a normal dragon form as well as a humanoid form. Many dragons choose to make their humanoid form identical to humans, although it is just as common for dragons to retain certain features such as their wings, claws, or tails. They are physically strong on top of possessing elemental magic abilities greater than the other races. All dragons can utilize fire effectively. Most are also able to use ice or lightning, but rarely both. While Dragons are incredibly powerful, they are extremely conservative in their powers, never using more than is necessary. Dragons live for centuries.
Arkans - The second-oldest race of Illyria. Although less powerful than the dragons, Arkans are stronger than humans and are more naturally inclined towards the use of elemental magic. Arkans are similar to humans in appearance, although they are much larger. The average Arkan is about six feet tall. Their hair is usually either black or completely white and their skin is tan. Originally from the mainland, the Dragons forced the Arkans to remain on the island Arkanis until about a century ago. Arkans live for two centuries on average.
Half-breeds:
*Human/Dragon - Rarely able to achieve a full dragon form, but usually still have some shapeshifting ability. Typically still retain certain draconic features such as wings, tails, claws, and enhanced strength and magical ability. Tend to live to be about 100 years old.
*Human/Arkan - The most visible distinction is appearance. They usually are taller and darker skinned than humans, although not to the same degree as pureblooded Arkans. Their physical strength and magical ability is more or less equal to that of an Arkan. Tend to live around a century.
*Dragon/Arkan - As far as appearance, they essentially look like Arkans with wings. They sometimes have claws as well, and often have tails. Their abilities are strong by Arkan standards, but still weaker than a normal Dragon. Tend to live about 300 years.
(2.2) Nations
Lyvian Empire - The stronger of the two human nations, the Lyvian Empire lies in the Northeast. The northeastern region is cold and consists of boreal forests. They are renowned for their hybridization of magic and technology. Deeply pious, they believe in a force called the “Divine”. Their Empress is believed to be the “Daughter of the Divine” and has ultimate authority on all matters.
Riverian Empire - The weaker of the two human nations, the Riverian Empire lies in the temperate and hilly Southeast. Unlike their neighbor to the north, the Riverians are mostly secular. While worship of the Divine is present, it is not state-sponsored as it is in the Lyvian Empire. The nation recently surrendered to the Lyvians, ending a war that has spanned over half a millenium.
Dracos - The nation of the Dragons. Dracos lies in the west of the Drake Mountains. This region doesn’t recieve as much rain as the rest of Illyria, but its proximity to the coast makes irrigation easy and the area is very habitable. The most powerful nation in Illyria, Dracos organized the expulsion of the Arkans from the mainland after being attacked. Aside from this, Dracos has maintaned a status of neutrality throughout known history.
Arkanis - The nation of the Arkans. Arkanis is a large tropical island off the coast of the mainland of Illyria. It was formed after the Dragons forced them off of the mainland following the Arkan attack on Dracos. Arkanis has held an isolationist policy since leaving the mainland, although Arkans have been free to emmigrate to the mainland for the last century.
