Funny thing is, during the bush administration he could have reinstated the draft and said if you draft dodge you are unamerican and unpatriotic. Let’s hope not, the draft is a terrible thing. Your forcing innocent people who do not have a fighting spirit or should ever have blood stained on their hands to do what they aren’t meant to be done. People who just aren’t meant to shoot guns or harm others will be forced to do so. And you’ll be putting them in situations that they don’t deserve to be in. If the draft is reinstated then well I’m screwed. Funny though, as much as I want to stay out of the army if the draft is reinstated me being drafted is something that I wouldn’t worry about as much as some of my friends being drafted. I’d be screwed, seriously screwed.
The draft was mainly the reason why we had a diffcult time in WW2, sure we gained strength in numbers but the draft was made up of men 18-30 years of age who recieved little training less then the standard 8 weeks for an army soldier and they were forced onto the frontlines mixed in with hardly any vigorously trained soldiers or marines. Squads made up of those conscripted soldiers often died.
The U.S. only took able-bodied men, the soviet union did the same thing expect they forced everyone into the army, aside from normal citizens, they forced criminals, farmers, etc into the army with no training at all, that is the reason why they suffered the highest death toll in WW2.
The draft would be stupid and people would really need to rethink why they elected obama, because sure change can be needed, but the vast majority of the people that voted for him should also realize that CHANGE IS NOT ALWAYS NEEDED NOR IS IT ALWAYS FOR THE BETTER. If he did reinstate the draft, things would get out of hand and people would make retarded reasons to brand you a bad person if you rejected like, you are a traitor, communist, unpatriotic, racist just because obama is African, people need to rethink stuff before thinking that just because one person does it, it is not really good.
I am 20 years old and am in college and the fricken greatest country in the world with a great government of equality and liberty expects me to just drop everything I am working for and hoping to achieve and just throw me into boot camp, get minimal training, thrown in a squad of similar people, get dropped into combat, and get killed right there for absolutley no reason in a pointless war just being deemed an expendable grunt by the U.S. army? Wow how can the government officals live with themselves now, knowing that they forced thousands of men and women into service and gotten them killed for no reason? Easy, they feel no remorse knowing that they killed many people just by giving an order and being able to keep their power for doing it. Such is the problem in our government, we can only choose who leads, the rest unfolds and is up to the government within itself to decide who stays and who goes with us having no say in it.
