Don’t jsut answer the poll. Just putt that in there.

This is political by the way because if we were to rebuild it, Louisiana, my home state by the way, would need federal expenditures to fund it. So what do you think.

Now I may be from here and live not to far away from New Orleans. Really historical city so many things there that are just amazing. But I say no to rebuilding it. Why should we rebuild something that will in 50 years be completely under water anyways. That’s my arguement. You don’t build a house on a fault line and you don’t make a city when its doomed to be the new City of Atlantis.

I say no, because that city was completely fucked up in the first place...

I don’t think rebuilding it would be worth the tax money.

I agree. But here’s a counter arguement to all our arguement. If there was another massive earthquake in San Francisco and there was mass hysteria and damage should we rebuild the city. I mean studies prove that sooner or later that section of California will break off and be no more. Why rebuild it if its doomed anyways. Same thing we use for the not rebuilding of New Orleans.

Why should we continue to pay taxes to the governemtn who use it to help rebuild Florida every year who get massive damage from inevitable hurricanes. They are in hurricane valley haha. I mean they are going to get hit. It’s better really to say its your fucking fault for living there. And same with Florida is a lot of it will be under water in 50-100 years thx to Global Warming.

So if we are going to act this way about New Orleans shouldn’t we start doing it about other places with similar conditions as well. Hell why not have this attitude. it happened in their state. Why shoudl we pay taxes to the federal government that is used to help rebuild things not in my state that have no affect.

Why should I pay taxes and have it to help rebuild homes destroyed by forest fires. Why should my tax dollars be spend to help rebuild homes on the gulf coast, outside of Louisiana of course cause I live here. Why should my tax dollars go to helping New York rebuild and clean after 9/11.

These are all things that and issues that arise when thinking about this. It’s quite a debateable subject.

Yeah, we have to spend enough money with regards to taxing for the illegal beaners that come in here and get everything for free. And they really overdo it too. I mean isn’t 10 kids enough? We pay for all of their medical bills and everything.

I definately don’t think we need to add another however many billion dollars added to that list for a city that really isn’t worth the shit.

The only cool thing about that city was Mardi Gras, and in my opinion, thats one holiday thats just a bloody waste of time. And condems.

Well I don’t think your giving New Orleans enough credit. It’s the second biggest harbor in America only next to New York. Not to mention it’s important to passing things around the Mississippi River.

But as much economically and socially that New Orleans provides, its not even close to the amount it would take to rebuild, not to mention then be destroyed again soon after.

But give New Orleans credit where credit is due. It has and still is one of the most important cities in this countries.

I don’t think it’s worth it. It’s basically a giant soup bowl. It will just be a waste of money.

BTW what state is New Orleans in? I don’t mean state as in New York or Florida kind of states, I mean state as in the current condition.

Um seeing that I’ve been there after Katrina it is in pretty bad shape. Mostly in the poor areas if you get my gist. Companies that can afford to put there things back up have and some parts, mostly the higher level areas and higher social class areas, are looking better. But the poor areas(note New Orleans had a pretty high poverty rate) are in pretty bad conditions. Lots of homes still destroyed. Still jsut quite a mess.

...

Wtf?

I don’t think we should rebuild it..

It’s detstined for failure..

but I’m not HAPPY it was demolished..

It’s not entirely their fault..

Some people had no where else to go, and the goverment did close to nothing to help.

This is actually a really interesting topic Zucas.

I have a question for you though;
Is your “no” hypothetical or realistic?

I mean, you yourself pointed out how difficult it would be to have a 'pick and choose' kind of recovery system for disasters in the United States (although there is definite favoritism given to certain causes already). So do you really think no money should be given for the rebuilding? or, as a 'bubble' case do you simply see the cons outweighing the pros?

Oh, and as for my own opinion...I really don’t know anything about the condition or politics of New Orleans right now, but I can’t see how 'cutting them loose' is a good idea. It’s always the poor who loose out on these situations, especially if external funds are slim.
