Been crazy since the day I was born! Rep: 37 Joined: 02 May 2006 Posts: 6,747 OFFLINE | I don’t know if this applies to different states, but where I am, from age 18-20 you’re considered a minor, but you are treated like an adult. When you reach 21 you’re officially an adult. Dunno, it’s weird.
I also find it weird how everyone wants you to stop smoking, but you can do it at the age of 18, whereas you don’t see all these “No drinking” ads, but you have to be 21 to do so in my state. Is smoking or drinking worse for your health in the short or long term? I’m never going to do either so it doesn’t apply to me but a friend brought that question up a few days ago. ---

So it really doesn’t mean all that much but whatev. ---

Technically smoking is worse for you. Excessive smoking WILL cause an earlier death. While drinking doesn’t have that same guarantee. Smoking also is worse in the short term.
But that doesn’t mean drinking isn’t bad for you. I mean most morons don’t mind doing excessive drinking but mainly because they drink those pussy beer drinks which have such little alcohol content that they might as well just have a coke for the same negative effects. But if you do drink a lot and on a regular basis you will do damage to your body. Why you’d ever want to do that (most of those shitty alcoholic drinks taste bad anyways) is beyond me. I mean if you are going to drink you might as well have the good stuff but oh well people do it for other reasons.
Point is while smoking is worse excessive alcohol will destroy your liver and damage your brain. Which is apparent as most heavy drinkers do seem inferior to the rest of us. But they should probably drop the legal buying age of alcohol to 18 as 21 is just “moral law” to satisfy the religions after prohibition I suppose. ---

Wishing I was on vacation... Rep: 43 Joined: 23 Nov 2006 Posts: 6,161 OFFLINE | I agree with Zucas,
It’s all about the excess. It also doesn’t help that cigarettes are so addictive either, people can rarely have “just one”.
A dark beer (no preservatives) or a nice red wine can be good for you...just keep it to glass a day or less.
And I think it’s stupid to have a legal drinking age to high. I also find it ironic somehow that while apparently you’re old enough to vote and responsible enough to make that decision...you’re not apparently responsible enough to drink .
It’s also been my experience that teens tend to drink in excess when they’re not allowed to.
In most countries in Europe where children drink at an earlier age at meals and such...it doesn’t seem all that special to be able to drink...so people take it a lot more casually.
(Not that people wont get drunk with an earlier legal age…it is fun from time to time….it’s just all about keeping it in moderation). ---

I have no problems with all the morons and idiots going out and drinking and smoking themselves to death. If they choose to be idiots... let them die like idiots. Just tax it and make some money off it in the meantime. I feel no remorse for those who drink and smoke themselves to death because they chose to do that. If you give yourself a death wish then it’s only right. ---

Not exactly... At 18 yes you are considered an Adult, 21 adds the legal responsiblity to drink alcohol. But if you were considered an adult at 18 why cant you book a hotel room or rent a car until your 21/25? Why can’t you get go on a cruise if you are 18 without someone who is 25? When are you really considered an Adult? When do you have access to everything? 18? 21? 25? | |
