first off...thank you. you’ve changed me, and gotten me to think more critically about my faith. you’ve trained me the value in questioning my faith, and gave me understanding of the concept of if this is truth, then it should stand up to criticism. i’m thanking you because last night it payed off. i spent all night (literally, i’m operating on 0 sleep right now, so if i sound insane, ats why...) talking about religion. basically, she kind of pretends to be christian, but she is really agnostic. she claims she loves genuine christians, so she kinda pretends to be one to stay around them. also, her parents are VERY much conservative christians. point is, deep down, she is genius, probably one of the smartest people i’ve ever talked to. but, because of your guys, i’ve learned a lot about christianity, and there were several moments when we were talking and she just kinda stopped and stared at me and said “i’ve never thought of that before..." so, thank you for training me and making me into who i am. take that how you will. haha

second, i’m reading one of my first christian books right now (i know, horrible, right?), but this is very interesting. its this book “unchristian”, and it basically talks about how bad christians have fucked up. its written by a research analysis who took a bunch of surveys about how people perceive christians, and its basically a call to action for christians to change that image. in his research, he found a church that was doing a five week series on apologizes. i’d like to echo their sentiments. here’s the list:

apology #1- we’re sorry for our self-righteousness and hypocrisy

apology #2- we’re sorry for our endorsement of slavery

apology #3- we’re sorry for our mistreatment of homosexuals

apology #4- we’re sorry for the midieval crusades

apology #5- we’re sorry for saying the earth is flat

we are serious about our need to confess to you. it is not a joke.

just some interesting stuff.

Kev360,

If you’re interested, there is an excellent Christian question and answer site at questions@gracethrufaith.com

It is the site of Jack Kelley, an extremely gifted Christian Bible study teacher. He answers EVERY question posed to him in easy to understand, concise answers with the Scripture references and references to other related questions and answers. Check it out, I think you’ll like it.

it takes a lot to listen to others opinions and it takes even more to actually put it to use and think about it seriously especially when its about something you think or believe in is being questioned. So kudos to you good job.

It is always of more value to question and believe, than to believe without question.

lol, i’ll keep that in mind if i need it. but, ok...here are a couple sets of logic that sets my logic on this...first, i think that the best way to grow closer to God is to ask questions about your faith. you stop asking, you stop thinking. you stop thinking, you stop growing. you stop growing, and its all pointless. second, strait from my dad...if this stuff is true, it should be able to stand up to criticism. so, i’m not afraid to ask questions.

but, um, these are a couple things that i’ve been wanting to share for a bit. you guys are awesome, really. haha no where else do i get so many people so intelligently criticizing the bible.

Most mature Christians do this, despite what many atheists believe.

haha, absolutely. i actually enjoy school. the pursuit of knowledge is a beautiful thing, you know.

though, i’d change number 4 to be more general. all the people killed because of christianity.

Yeah, pretty much.

As the writer of the Dawkins Delusion, Alister Edgar McGrath, said, "...Jesus...was the object, not the agent, of violence”

Many say they do when they obviously don’t, as well. However, questioning can only get harder as you age simply because even more of your life is built upon your beliefs. Questioning one’s beliefs at that point is an assault on their entire life.
