Autism may be the next step for human evolution. Remember, evolution is not a ladder to greatness, or improvement. But just random mutation, with natural selection. If natural selection deems us (not consciously) unfit through some sort of natural or human made event, and only autistic people where capable of surviving and reproducing offspring, then yes, they will be the next step.
