It strange how people here have resorted to attacking my character, rather than responding to my criticism.

One day, maybe.
But realistically, people don’t respond well to things that aren’t nicely said to them.
And when you say things like this:
Gplex wrote:
What are you a little girl? How else am I suppose to respond to a clearly stupid remark? If I just called you an idiot, which was my first thought after reading your post, 9 times out of 10, people just assume that I’m being a dick for no reason.

I really think you walk into it.
? I see it as a victory when someone cannot respond in a rational way. I like your logic though – “it’s your fault people act like stupid idiots”, lol.

Clearly you dont.
Because, obviously, everyone has to come to the same conclusion as you to have an open mind. That is a closed-minded response you made.
Having an open mind is merely the capability to accept new information, instead of blocking it out immediately. It does not dictate what they do with that information; that is the result of culture, motive, or even how much the person cares. Also, having an open mind does not automatically make you right. You are basically saying the same thing the video was against: using open-mindedness as a defense for your points. Just because someone doesn’t believe in God, doesn’t mean they aren’t open-minded. Just because someone believes in God doesn’t mean they aren’t open-minded.
And you call other people stupid.
This is why people can attack your character, because you are so stuck on your own ways of thinking that you don’t seem to actually be open-minded. You contradicted your point not even 10 posts into the thread, so making any argument against you is pointless because you are full of shit.
And yes, my logic is sound. I don’t expect you to like it, but you do illicit the negative responses you receive. I guess you expect people to never have an emotional response ever to anything, especially nothing you say. Although, in your defense, it is bad they can’t come in with a counter-argument if that happens, and your seemingly poor character in their eyes doesn’t make their point any more valid either.

Strawman. Been awhile.

I don’t block new information; I am constantly looking for more. Nice strawman. It’s when you attribute something to a god with only assertions, you are closed minded.

I don’t know how you reason your logic; you have never explained it to me. People who are closed minded will block out, and ignore anything I say, so why not get them mad, and let them show how stupid they are.

Yeah, haven’t read this in awhile myself. Except, how is this strawman? I did not misrepresent your argument, I demonstrated how it was a closed-minded remark, which is contradictory to your original point. I also never made the attempt to invalidate your original point, as I have already agreed with it.
Gplex wrote:

The minute you assume that because someone believes in God that they are closed-minded is not only a hasty generalization, but also closed-minded because you are blocking out the fact that people who believe in a god or many gods can be open minded. Some Christians do not deny or block out science, which seems to be your main argument for their inherent closed-mindedness.
And I won’t assume that you are only open-minded in terms of science, but if that is the case, then you are far from a truly open-minded individual.
Gplex wrote:

Maybe it’s because we don’t come from the same English-speaking nations that you tend to not get my sarcastic remarks. This is a rather common way of ours to say that you are being stupid.
Gplex wrote:

Um, okay. I not only did the first time I mentioned it, I quoted you again in my subsequent post. You are either blind or, *gasp*, closed-minded, at least here, or just trying to ignore something. I don’t know, there are a slew of reasons.
Gplex wrote:

I’m sorry I don’t outline all my logic in a syllogism, but I haven’t seen you do this either.
My logic is thus:
You make a statement saying, or implying, that someone is stupid.
People tend to dislike others calling them stupid.
Therefore, you calling people stupid will cause them to dislike you and show it in some form.
Better? You are partially responsible for how someone acts towards you.
If you share your objective, I may be able to assist you.
Let me attempt to make it easier for you:
A. You care for others, and want others to understand life and reality as well as you do, so they will be able to live more useful and meaningful lives.
B. Your interests are self-centered, but you want others to understand life and reality as well as you do, so that you don’t feel so alone in your experience and perceptions.
C. You value others' insights, and therefore seek to combine efforts with them, in order to increase your personal and/or mutual capacity to understand things around you.
D. You want others to agree, that your methods are superior, because you identify with your intelligence and reasoning, and thus define your personal sense of value and importance by the degree that others consider you to be right.
E. You are extremely afraid of the unknown. -Have therefore, become paranoid delusional in order to feel “safe” within your very limited understanding of things, but your needing others to believe it too, to help you keep the dream “sound” and consistent.

“everyone has to come to the same conclusion as you to have an open mind” : that is a strawman, because that is not my position. I have never claimed it to be.

No another strawman! As soon as someone asserts something to with no evidence it shows they are closed minded! Willing to jump to conclusions without examining what really happen. WTF. I didn’t even mention science. Stop putting words in my mouth.

Where I come from, sarcastic remarks are communicated with body language and tone of voice. Everything else is taken seriously.

You have no idea what closed minded behavior is like. Oh wait, you can’t see that I’m being sarcastic, because you are closed minded.

I haven’t because logic and reason can only be examined when you are using them. Somehow you have come up with a way to describe your logic no matter what you are doing, and I’m interested in hearing it.

I am not responsible for someone else behavior.
Is this your entire logic base, it seems a little small.

I came to that conclusion myself based upon your actions, merely in this thread, by the way. You never stated any position, in fact, so it can’t be a strawman. But seriously, it very much seems like that is what you are doing.
Gplex wrote:

I would appreciate you first explain why my statements are strawman fallacies, because, as far as I remember, you have never done so. I mean, I always disagreed, but you never really explained how you came to such a conclusion. Enlighten me, so I can improve. Seriously.
A major point made in the video is in reference to science. Seeing as you use the video, I assume that, coupled your old arguments of the Roman Catholic Church hindering science, you have a prejudice with religious people. Sadly, I have no way of proving to myself that this is something else.
Also, believing in something without evidence is not open- or closed-minded. It is something else entirely. You have demonstrated already that you think Christians are closed-minded, quit saying “strawman” over and over to try and prove this wrong, because it doesn’t make this any more true, at least based upon your quotation of King Boo. And that is closed-minded, because, as I have already said, there are open-minded theists and religious people.
Gplex wrote:

I did watch it. It basically discusses how people’s reaction of calling other people closed minded because they do not have enough proof to believe something such as the Christian beliefs is counter-productive, because it only “rehearses their own prejudices." They make snap conclusions about someone not believing because of lack of support as closed-minded, but that in and of itself is closed-minded because a prejudice only shows you have a pre-defined thought of how someone is based upon the group the belong to.
Gplex wrote:

Same here, but this type of sarcasm is so often used that it’s pretty obvious, at least to me and some others. I should have just flat out said you were being stupid, though, so my mistake.

I mean, I understand the desire to quote, but I’ve done it twice. Until you destroy the points I’ve made on them, which you have yet to do, then I won’t quote you. And besides, using old quotes isn’t proper, because you could change from one day to the next as far as I know.

When you are using them? So are your arguments selectively logical, or what? All claims you make should have logic behind them. And a syllogism is an effective way of showing a logical trail, so to speak. It includes a main premise, a support premise, and the conclusion.
Gplex wrote:

So? It’s size has no bearing on it’s logic or validity. You are only partially right though, for you are only partially responsible for how someone acts. Humans can’t help immediately how they’ve learned to react to certain things, so don’t go around calling people stupid if you don’t want people to go on about your character. If you don’t care, don’t mention it, because you imply that you have some sort of issue with it.
I mean, what, are you surprised that people react by attacking your character based upon some of your statements? Not everyone will, of course, but be realistic; some do, and some more harshly than others.

Wow prejudice, I suppose you are right, I put them in the same category as the flat earth believers. “People to laugh at” category.

No. That’s another strawman. I said jumping to conclusions without investigation. Most Christians are closed minded. Every try to convince a Christian that sai baba has far more witness of his miracles then jesus and you will get a very different attitude compared to the unquestioning acceptance of jesus magic tricks. A clear example of how closed minded they/you are.

Fail. Recognizing closed minded behavior doesn’t mean you are closed minded.

To describe all the logic I have use in my life would be a very large task. But I do want them to show what kind of person they really are.
You have shown me that you like to pretend that what I say = what you want me to mean.

I expect more from people, I actually feel let down.
I don’t straight away call someone stupid – even though I think you made a lot of stupid claims – I will explain to them why they are wrong, or how their beliefs don’t make sense, those who decided to ignore what I say, or come up with some fallacy to call back on, and will not listen – I eventually call them stupid.
