Judges 19: 23-29
" 23 The owner of the house went outside and said to them, “No, my friends, don’t be so vile. Since this man is my guest, don’t do this disgraceful thing. 24 Look, here is my virgin daughter, and his concubine. I will bring them out to you now, and you can use them and do to them whatever you wish. But to this man, don’t do such a disgraceful thing."
25 But the men would not listen to him. So the man took his concubine and sent her outside to them, and they raped her and abused her throughout the night, and at dawn they let her go. 26 At daybreak the woman went back to the house where her master was staying, fell down at the door and lay there until daylight.
27 When her master got up in the morning and opened the door of the house and stepped out to continue on his way, there lay his concubine, fallen in the doorway of the house, with her hands on the threshold. 28 He said to her, “Get up; let’s go." But there was no answer. Then the man put her on his donkey and set out for home.
29 When he reached home, he took a knife and cut up his concubine, limb by limb, into twelve parts and sent them into all the areas of Israel."
genesis 19:31-35
“31 One day the older daughter said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth. 32 Let’s get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father."
33 That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.
34 The next day the older daughter said to the younger, “Last night I lay with my father. Let’s get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father." 35 So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up." __________________

Fairytale
1. A fanciful tale of legendary deeds and creatures, usually intended for children.
2. A fictitious, highly fanciful story or explanation.
Now tell me, does this sound like something familiar?

Wouldn’t it be a bit too huge of a coincidence to accept science is right about gravity, magnetism, atoms and pretty much everything else but just happens to be completely wrong about everything that’s in the Bible? silverspirit2001 Guest Can someone of a literalistic faith explain to me how genisis does not contradict itself in the first two chapters?
ie
001:026 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after
our likeness: and let them have dominion over the
fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and
over the cattle, and over all the earth, and
over every creeping thing creepeth upon the earth.
and
002:008 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in
Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
002:009 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow
every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and
good for food; the tree of life also in the
midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of
good and evil.
SO god created trees on the third day, before man, and on the sixth day, after man?
At least the apologetics recognize this conflict, and point out the mistake was meant to show that the story was meant to be allegorical, pointing to some deeper truth rather than a literal.
Those clever apologetics found a way to believe in evolution, and show those mistakes and nastier things in the bible show some inner story only accessible by orthodox interpretations, unavailable to most literalists. Bears killed 72 children by gods command, its just a story, the real truth behind it is more difficult to explain.
So either god made the message simple so everyone can understand it, (and fails in the bibles contradictions) or made it complex, so only priests can understand it (and makes it inaccessible to many people, so people can misinterpret it - very clever god, shows he does not like stupid people).
Be aware though, if you choose to argue about it, I will bring in some simple traps to your logic Joined: 17 Jan 2007 Posts: 7,296 OFFLINE GplexNonsense won't be tolerated Rep: 72 shaun of the living nli wrote:

That funny, but science is right not because it has a good track record. __________________ Cid wrote:

Well, I’m not saying it’s automatically proven right about everything just because of it’s record, that would be dogma and science has to make mistakes to be self correcting. But it does make claims of scientists just being 'biased against God' seem less likely. shaun of the living nli Guest Chilly man wrote:

Christianity or Anarchy. I can’t tell what’s stupider. I haven’t met him, but like most Anarchists he’ll probably grow out of that crackpot ideology in a few months or years, like I did. |
