Free will exist. You may choose any path. The problem is that people rarely do something that you don’t expect from them.

Free will exists. We are free to pave our own way through life but when you think about all the alternative outcomes to your life from alternative actions, you can be overwhemlmed psycologically and this when some people like to rationalise by convincing themselves that everything is pre ordained.

Just to blow your mind, in a day you could, if able to split yourself up into two everytime you needed to make a decision which had multiple choices, take over the world.

This diagram illustrates just how man options you have.

Now ignore the percentages up the top, ikts a diagram from something ele but serves the point of illustarting the sheer magatude of options that are presented to us on a day to day basis.

Each branch in the path leads us down a different road in the day. If we stop for 5 minutes to talk to someone or we keep on going, if we have breakfast or not, if we have coffee or not, when we cross the road, who we stop for, what we do..each has the potential to change the predetermined path we in theory were on before. Each decision alters our realoity and creates a alternative to what was happening before.

This is why we have free will, because everyting we do shapes our lives and the lives of those around us.

I don’t believe we have free will because every action/thought that you make in the past, present, or future, is a result of what happened before and/or around you. Free will is an illusion, a perception. Not a power or driving force. As Einstein has paraphrased, “a human can very well do what he wants, but cannot will what he wants."

Well it answers the question “why doesn’t *your choice deity/ies here* make everyone worship (him her them)?"

The ability to will something to happen indeed does happen. We have voluntary control over man of our bodies movements. If we 'will' to walk backwards up a street, then we can do it. If we will to turn left as oposed to right, we can do it. Not every action is a result what has happened before. We have choice as to which direction we wish to walk. If there was no free will, we wold have no say in what direction we wished to walk, but instead we get too choose. This is free will. It isn’t influenced by some higher power, we make a concious decision to head in a specific direcion.

depends on whether you could call our “sub-conscious” a higher power over us. Why would you walk backwards up a street? Because you are trying to prove that you have freewill.

It’s not as simple as being able to control your body at a given time... it goes into your deeper desires that drive you to move your body that is in question.

It all comes down to equations of probability...

Also the fact that there was an experiment testing free will, where subjects were told to make random movements such as moving their fingers and found that signals were already moving from the brain down to the fingers telling them to move before the conscious mind was aware that they “decided” to make those movements.

It’s probably also worth mentioning that out of the four classes of consciousness. They are conscious, unconscious, subconscious, and preconscious. You are only able to freely access one of them, and that is conscious. To have true free will, you would need to freely be able to access all of them.

For example, information that occurs in the unconscious mind cannot be retrieved because it occurs without your realization. If you are not aware of it, then how can you change the will of it?

Explain then, the fakirs who are able to control thier body to the extent that they can stop their heart and restart it again all through will and also ow people can kill themselves which goes against the very survival mechanisms that exist to self preservate. How people can block out pain signals and achieve a great many things through mediatation.

This is in opposition to only being able to control the conciousness.

I occasionally walk backwards for something to do, just like I might walk random for lack of something interesting.
