Well what I thought was that Mark Twain gave the mysterious stranger the name of someone who a lot of people see as pure evil, but make him do actions that god has done before. He was basically asking the question “do they think he’s good because of his name, or because he really is good?"

A person who believes in God would trust that everything will be okay despite the circumstances. That trust can’t be given to anyone.
