Look at it this way. If Christians all have unwavering belief in God and Heaven and believe that all good Christians go to heaven then why do they grieve when a Christian dies? When someone goes on holiday you are supposed to be happy for them right? Say 'Have a nice time I will be seeing you soon with any luck!' and watch them get on the flight. If that is so then why do Christians (scratch that, all theists) cry at a funeral instead of party?
you could look at it that way, but even if they think someones going to heaven they still lost that person. so they can cry because they lost a friend, or sister or whoever.

Actually at our funerals its also a celebration of the loved one’s home coming. “Blessed are those who mourn."
The ancient Celts were polytheists. They actually celebrated funerals and mourned births. It had to do with their beliefs about reincarnation. I’m sure that would seem very strange in our society today.

Well in south India where the Indo Eurpoean cultures didnt penetrate that afar.. people dance and play music at funerals.. I’ve always found that weird.

what he (right?) said, except with a more sarcastic bend to it.
Well couldn’t you, in a sort of twisted way, be theistic and not have a belief in an afterlife? o.o There’s always weird people like that out there after all.

Well. -pulls out calculator- I think even if he could enjoy his creations forever, he wouldn’t make much of a profit out of it, considering all their visas and whatnot would still be on earth, or destroyed depending on the company.
Either way, what a theist believes in can always be different from another theist; that’s just an example, and there are probably others who believe in reincarnation and so forth.
(Hell, you get right down to it, and it’s totally possible for an atheist to have a belief of an afterlife as well, and not necessarily in reincarnation)
Otherwise the general answer of emotional attachment was already given, it’s a part of our nature.

Ok sorry...I have to point this out.
“Indo-European” refers to a modern set of languages, and by extension, to the people who speak them. The geographical region these languages/people cover extends to India (hence the Indo).
In the study of ancient history, the emerging languages in this group are referred to as “Proto-Indo-European”. These languages/people also occupied a wide geographical area, including part of India.
(I had to study the history of the English language if I wanted to graduate with my BA, but you can also find this on Wikipedia or other places online).
That’s really interesting about the dancing and music at funerals. It makes me wonder what the connection is between particular beliefs in reincarnation and the celebration of death as a passage.

Why not just keep alive all the ones he has now instead of keeping on killing them and making new ones? Especially since billions of them end up being eternally tortured anyway. Yeah you can say he’s a pussy ass God who needed other people to love him to feel good about himself so he gave us free will, but if you were a parent, would you give your child the choice to reject you by say; lettiong them run away from home or letting them do something they really you know would kill them just so you could be absolutely sure they loved you? How fucking selfish, that’s essentially making other people suffer for your own pleasure.

Because He gave His Son for us ramm, He just wants you to know Him, you are so blinded by sin, you cannot see straight enough to see what is acually there man. You will be insulting God till your last breath gives way, and you will see what a wasted life you had, and what it could have been

You people are just illogical thinkers, you state something, and nobody can even cause you to think about what was said
We’re not close minded or dogmatic, really, you guys JUST DON’T HAVE ENOUGH DECENT FUCKING ARGUMENTS TO CONVINCE US. Fuck, just because we don’t blindly accept your point of view doesn’t make us illogical, there’s a word for it; reason. No need to fall flat back on your ass and claim we’re just willfully ignorant because you’re not good enough at arguing to convince us. I’ve never seen you say “Hmmm, maybe God doesn’t exist”. Try to see things from our point of view.
Nobody can ever cause you to think about what was said? Hmmm... let’s look at the religious background of most of the Atheists on here;
Crimson Blade; from Spiritualist to Christian to Agnostic to Atheist. ChibiDiscosDhaos; from Christian to Atheist after debating with Atheists. Gplex; from Christian to Atheist after actually sitting down and reading the Bible. Ramuenmatt; from Christian to Atheist after reading the Bible (I think, but he did say something like “Reading the Bible is what made me Atheist” ). Petrofsky; From Theist (I think Jew or Christian) to Atheist after personal observation of the world around him. Myself; From Christian to Atheist to Muslim to Atheist after looking into science and further reading of religious scriptures of the aforementioned religions.
Hope I didn’t get any of that wrong...
