Name: Goes by the nickname Thunder, rarely reveals his true name.
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Species: Altered Human
Appearance: Short black hair, blue eyes, thin goatee. Wears a blue long coat, yellow long sleeve shirt, dark blue jeans, has tennis shoes.
Kyoudo: N/A(Like Alucard I believe this leads to self wank. You should remove this)
Powers and Abilities: Lightning manipulation and generation(To be exact, he can make his own lightning or control existing lightning) increased speed, resistance to electrical attacks.
Fighting style: Defensive, uses quick strikes to wear down his foe. Usually likes to try and stay at range though.
Destructive capacity: Large Building+ with most lightning amped attacks, can charge his power for a single City Block+ attack, leaves him drained though.
Range: Several dozen meters with lightning.
Speed: Can easily bullet time, slightly above peak human movement.
Durability: Large building+, City Block+ with lightning armor.
Strength: Roughly class 1, can flip over a car at max strength.
Weakness: Doesn’t have a lot of training in physical combat, mostly self taught in that aspect.
Stamina: Peak Human+
Standard Equipment: None
Intelligence: Very high, just below genius.
History: Thunder always wanted to be someone special, not just another cog in the mechanism so to speak. As a result of this he started experimenting with electricity and lightning. Eventually with one of experiments it required the device to be struck by lightning. After waiting in the thunder storm for a while, Thunder decided to move his machine and try again. While moving it a lightning bolt struck his experiment, causing Thunder to be electrocuted and knocking him out. When he came to he discovered the shock had given him the ability to control and manipulate lightning, excited by his fortunate accident. He started traveling to make a name for himself.

Notable Techniques/Moves:

Lightning armor: He surrounds himself with lightning, increasing his defenses and causing anyone who touches him or that he touches to get an electric shock.

Electric Bomb: Gathers a large amount of energy in his hand and forms it into a ball before throwing it at whatever his target is, can level a city block.

Ok, here’s my guy. If he seems a bit weak I can buff him if needed, I’d hate to have my guy be weaksauce next to everyone lol.

Really? I prefer to have it. It helps define a char’s power more clearly.

Already? I think DBZ, since the max starting is 10,000(Broly as a baby) and Scribblenaut said that the “average human is 5”. Although we COULD probably switch to original if more people think that’s better.

A Plot Device Device cau causes something to happen to move the story along ex. “I got a letter from you telling me to come here”

A Plot Twist Device does what the name suggests ex. “The letter was really from the bad guy”

The Improbability Gun causes a random thing to happen to the target ex. “the target gets surrounded by ninjas, the target gets surrounded by sexy loose women, the target turns into a sofa, the target’s weapons shoots sharks at you, the target explodes killing everyone within 99999999999 miles of him.

Original might be best if you ask me. I mean a simple 4k is continent busting by DBZ standards. And we’re only having this take place on one planet, it’d likely get seriously trashed. If we were going around multiple planets I’d have no problem, but when pretty much everyone who wants to mean anything will have to have at lest a few thousand PL, planet is getting trashed.

Those first two sound like godmodding and reality warping, overpowered if you ask me.

The gun....Well it really has the potential to be broken.

I picked them off uncyclopedia, they are much better than the fat kid launcher but weaker than the Chuck Norris gun. Every weapon/item you named are uncontrolable over what happens.

They’re still overpowered in my opinion, or at lest have serious potential to be.

They could basically let you hyjack the plot or ruin a story someone is working on.

Or they could basically give you an “I win” button with the improbability gun. Though this one I can see working if it’s not abused and the things it can cause aren’t TOO insane(I’m looking at that last example of the kill everyone within 999999999 miles....)

It may be random yes, but you still control it and could abuse that.

AND its pretty much Reality Warping, which is overpowered here........

In addition the two examples you gave sound like godmodding/controlling other peoples character without permission :/ I suppose for the first two it’s mainly that aspect I have a problem with, considering the examples you gave. It’s not the randomness aspect btw.

I say we should talk it over with the OP about making a system, because that high end number would sound fair if you ask me, we’d just need to work out the other numbers. I got some ideas if OP wants to use an original system and needs help with scaling.

This is my first RPG so I need some tips.

An important thing to know is to know the general power of the setting.

Like if you’re doing an RP of DBZ, everyone being able to planet bust is not unreasonable.

But if you say do an RP about Mario no regular character should be able to planet bust completely by themselves.

As it stands your guy seems a bit underpowered, compare your guy to me and Kazuma/Alucard’s characters. Both can bullet time and could tank building sized explosions.

Another thing to not do are things like godmodding, powerplaying, and Sues.

Godmodding is controlling another person’s character without permission. Like if you’re fighting and you post character A making an attack when character A is not your character and the person controlling him didn’t post any such thing.

Powerplaying is inventing powers out of nowhere, like you’re surrounded by backguys and suddenly your character can teleport when previously he couldn’t.

Mary Sues are “Perfect” characters(or just overpowered), they have no flaws, they can do anything, and nothing bad EVER happens to them.*
*Note: A Mary Sue doesn’t need to have all of this, usually they just have shades of it, they’d still be sues though.
