hey what does the f in f(x)=-1/2x-1 mean and how do you solve it?
Post the question word by word, since I don’t understand what you’re asking.
k its the slope intercept form.
i dont know what f is in the following equation:f(x)=-1/2x-1
f is the function.
what function?
Function is -1/2x-1.
That’s what f is. Unless the question is asking for something else.

so how do you solve it?
f(x) -consider it a replacement for y
Solving it?
why do you replace it with y?
F(x) = -1/2x-1
y= - 1/2x -1
add 1 to both sides
1= -1/2x
x=-2

f(x)=y
That’s because f(x) is the output of the function f when you plug in a number into x (which is input), which is also y (output).

Well, f stands for the function itself; f(x), which is equal to -1/2x-1.
Adding to that:::
In function notation, the “x” in “f(x)" is called “the argument of the function”,
.......................................
slope-intercept- like i originally thought
...
The function- basically you put in something, and something comes out. Some people call this the “function machine”
to the point. F(x) by itself normally is mathematically the same as Y.

for example F(X)=x^2 , then if you put 2 in, you end up with 4.
as for what i did below, I simply replaced
f(x) with y, in that math i did below..
then i solved it....are you having trouble following the solving process i did after that?

Can’t put it in better terms than what he said.

and how does that work?
wait let me try it:
y=-1/2x-1
0=-1/2x-1
x=2
y=-1?

that is correct..
Y does equal -1
So the y-intercept is -1, the X-intercept is -2
if you need visual confirmation to additionally check it , you could use , wolframalpha.com
This link leads to this very problem which i plugged in to get the graph

ahh...man sorry im a bit distracted... k let me try it:
y=-1/2x-1
y=-1?
WHATS X... ooops sorry i hit caps
