For someone so famous in the MMA world, his boxing skills are quite basic.

Anderson may not be the best boxer, but that’s because rather than focusing on simply upright striking with the hands, he has also worry about clinching, kicking, grappling, submissions, etc. He has to be capable of doing everything. He most certainly can strike, though.

I’d like to see Mayweather’s ground game compared to someone like Demian Maia’s. It’s the same comparison, really.

But Silva has to know how to punch. So how can he be a MMA champion when he´s such a bad puncher? And comparing Mayweather´s ground game to Demain´s is not the same. Because Mayweather doesn´t need to train for a ground fight. But Silva has to know how to dodge a punch etc.

Silva DOES know how to punch. Have you ever seen him actually fight? Do you know how he beat Griffin? With a punch. Silva knows how to punch.

Also, punching =/= boxing. Muay thai, karate, kickboxing, etc. are all comparable if not superior striking techniques. I doubt Machida is an amazing boxer, but he’s the undefeated Light-Heavy champion. He uses Karate, not boxing. It works pretty well for him.

It’s two different sciences. Comparing them both is like sending an NHL player to do lawn tennis professionally and vice-versa

MMA fighters are trained to punch like that. It gives them more range and power. A typical boxing stance is limited.

Watch this video at the 2:00 minute mark.
