Who here does taekwondo? Can you explain to me why so many taekwondo fighters, believe any of these kicks will get through a traditional kick boxing guard?
This is how I would expect the fight to play out if I was to fight someone who does this type of tkd, using tkd rules.

Hahahaha, I seriously don’t know...The sport seems to be more about stylish kicks, horrible guard and very, very bad punches than real self defense. A traditional TKD guy can never survive in a street fight, he can never last in MMA ring and he can only last in a TKD fight with TKD rules. I know I might be judging the martial arts rather than the martial artists in this fact, seriously. There are so many useless aerial kicks which doesn’t really generate enough power at all and it’s obvious to see them coming, also it leaves you wide open, the funny thing is, with TKD rules, you actually score a lot of points when you land those kicks even when you are up to your opponent’s face and can throw punches instead.

Well, that was quite embarrassing, and as embarrassing as it was, the TKD guy actually took quite a bit of beating. I am impressed.

taekwondo is a bullcrap martial art that tries to copy other martial arts, if your at all interested in that kind of fighting try joining the military
they all teach pretty incredible hand-to-hand fighting styles, and each country revolves around different styles, like usa uses a technique that prevents the fighter from fighting any further(or kill them if needed)
while in russia they use Sambo, a art that was made to kill
and there’s another one, its thought to asian nuns for self defense, where they don;t actually have to be physically strong to defend themselves-however that’s only to defend yourself, not hurt others

Check out this show, it’s called 'Human Weapon' they explore the different martial arts from around the world and shows intersting facts about them, well in the US Military, i am almost sure that they are taught various aspects from different martial arts(primarly moves which are required for a soldier to learn), including sambo, they are taught how to disarm, defend against knifes, kill, etc. And no, TKD didn’t try to copy other martial arts, TKD is the traditional fighting style of Korea, it’s pretty damn old too. They say since it’s disrespectful to hit someone in the face with your hands in Korea, they use their feet, haha. It’s such a shame most of those kicks are for show.

I have run into a few traditional tkd fighters, and they can fight, only standing of course, but still. This new Olympic type tkd, is useless and unfortunately it is one of the most popular forms of martial arts… MMA will eventually change that.

Only offensive martial art I learned was Shinkendo, which doesn’t help me when it comes to hand-to-hand. I did learn a mixture of aikido and judo, but I didn’t get that far into it. Regardless, it’s not offensive in the least. When you’ve truly mastered it, it’s a great defensive technique. Otherwise, it’s not incredibly useful.
TKD is just for show, not very affective. I think the best MA combination is Muay Thai and jiu jitsu.
