Well first off.. he is a power lifter and on steroids.
Power lifters eat a lot of protein because they not only fuel your tank when your energy is low but they also help “heal” muscles. However.. they do not care about their physiques so the 4cals in a protein does not phase them.
DON’T consume that much protein.. you will just get fat and get liver damage. That is stupid. If he is successful with in taking twice his body/g weight in protein then he is no doubly on steroids .
1 - 1.5 grams of protein per body weight is the key.

I never heard of protein damaging someone’s liver before.

Well now you have.
The only way to make sure it doesn’t is to cycle a lot of by clear liquids like water so you pee the rest out (what a waste..).

Does that explain why if I eat an energy bar with very high protein content. I will start to crave water?
Bingo;
A high protein diet has a diuretic effect, it requires more fluids to flush the materials/compounds and wastes through your system. The digestive system increases in temperature to absorb and break down the nutrients which requires a liquid form of energy.
Thanks, that makes sense, so without enough water, the liver can’t break down all that protein so it ends up damaging the liver in the long run which explains why quite a bit of bodybuilders who uses too much high protein supplements without water to digest and break all that down into amino acids to fuel the muscles, they usually end up with liver problems. Right?

Vaguely yes, there are MANY types of Amino Acids.. I think 20 of them are standard in the bio synthesis blah blah blah. But lets stay basic and say you are on the right track.
Bodybuilding is a science.. most people just think to Lift heavy, Eat a lot of protein and everything goes up.. unfortunately its not quite the way it works.

LOL! 16 cups??
“So how was your day?"
“P”
Haha.. she would be on the John ALL the time.
No kidding, I might ask her how that went.
Drinking that much water is actually very hard on the body. It is actually possible to drown by in taking A LOT of water. As well.. when you drink cold water you have a .05% chance of permanently damaging your heart. Of course there are lots of factors to clue in like temperature of water, body heat, what other foods were digested, physical activity that day etc..

I’m sure she’ll be fine. It’s not a long term thing, though of course I don’t know what temperature she’s drinking her water .

Yeah, a lot of people don’t realize that. Especially athletes with has trainers who offer them nothing as it relates to nutrition. So they are getting the good weight training but they aren’t getting the good nutrition. That’s usually the case, nutrition has a lot to do with athletic performance and what you eat is strongly dependent on your goals and what you are doing.

She should cut down to 8-10 glasses the least, but why is she taking that much protein in the first place?

If I wanted to get technical I would of brought up hyponatremia and how too much water dilates sodium nitrates which effects the cell walls. MMkay.
However, you are right with the “electrolyte imbalance” It is more commonly known as Water Intoxication.
This happens when a dehydrated person intakes too much water at a time without accompanying enough electrolytes to stimulate a correct balance of both nitrates.
It is NOT how much you drink however! It is how much you drink at a TIME or gulp. A regular healthy adult can intake anywhere from 10 to 15 liters a day and still be okay.
