Apparently the best trained knights came from Ireland, the barnog knights. Along with the celtic infleunce in Ireland came excellent swordsmanship and armour. They also had swords that were folded many times over, and have been recorded as one of the strongest substances known to man. The sword weighed a mere 8 pounds and had a 5 foot blade.
The great battle of ardkeen, was a great showcase for their strength. They faced english, german and italian knights and won outright, by using superior “Leithreas” or skill and tactics in English.
They were also effective assasins, rivaling that of the ninja. They were agile and used hook and pull devices to scale castle walls. This was called the “asal”. They also knew good camouflage, they were dressed in green and even smeared a mix of sheep dung and grass to their face. Apparently Irelands green theme comes from these warriors. So effective were they that they were used extensively in britian and spain. Adapting their green camo for brown, and yes using a browner dung. They in nunbers could storm a castle and completely overthrow it without waking the inhabitants.
I am surprised these excellent warriors are not mentioned more, although schwarzkopff once remarked before a battle, i’ll be like sending out barnogs to disperse the leprachauns (Which are a myth incidentally :-D). But they’re houtr i think may finally have came, with both mel gibson and cameron interested in bringing them to the silver screen
This may seem like bitching, and maybe it is, but I don’t care. Ninja in Japan were not respected, revered, or even liked. They were looked down on, as they were considered dirty swine for doing the dirty work of the Shogun, whereas the Samurai was respected and revered, as they protected the commoners.
knights, most people here think samurais would win from the games and movies they’ve seen. Knights armor has much more protection and knights have horses, giving them a big advantage....yep
I agree Samurai would win in a head to head fight, and knights are not given enough praise. I mean i was just reading about the barnog knights and they were tough, I’d like to see a samurai fight those mean mothers
hey samuris aint nijas the r samuris ok and knights would get owned fo sho ok the folded steele ont the katana is lighter and eairer to handle while a claymore alot strong is very heavily it would be a good fight the the chinc would win
I am doing a research project on the barnog knights does anyone know anything about them, this is really the only place that mentions them, please, please, please may i get some help.

i feel ancient japan would win there so skilled who do think would win medieval times europe or ancient japan
i’m a samurai, so i’d have to go for samurai...
and you’re right. they ARE very skilled.
Don’t bother, too many people here are basing whether they think one would win or not on the equipment they use instead of basing in on actual skill. They also make these assumptions without ANY prior experience or knowledge of either one.
Actually many mid evil swords weighed 10+ pounds and 7 pounds for a short sword and too all of you that say a knight was well armored is kinda wrong their armor only weighed about 80 pounds but it had ok protection but it was mostly for decoration and to show were you were from and on most knights had a breast plate but the back side was just chain mail but that can be cut through very easily with a stab and samari were trained for years with their swords and many only wore armor in great battles but when the would do a duel of one on one they did not wear armor so a samari would easily out skill and out speed a knight so a knight hands down and before guns the samuri never lost any great battles witch means the samuri would win against large armies as well like they did against the chines so hands down until guns the samuri were the masters of the sword
