The message might be worth something, but the album is utter cack.

Come on guys I know other people have written songs with meaning. I know other genres have songs with meaning. I know other people have probably made more bold statements. But that’s not what I’m talking about here. I’ve generalized to one band’s album, that is a rock opera which has a lot of deep meaning. I’m not looking to pose a competition, just discuss one.

So why the hell did I get all these people who had to immediately start comparing, putting down, and even trashing what was stated. I don’t know but I guess Green Day was right in a lot of areas of meaning in their album.

Everyone .. including the trolls, retards and idiots... have a right to opinion.. just answer them back or dont bother.. you dont have to sweat over it boy ..

And I have the right to come out against those opinions now don’t I. It’s a neverending chain of who has the right to what so don’t give me that bullshit.

If anyone’s feeding you crap it’s yourself. Lookup to what you’ve been writing on.

You can’t discuss an album without comparing it to something else anyway.

thats like

topic starter: “hey the average temperature here ranges from 17 degrees to 25 degrees centegrade, thats such a huge amount, 17 is so cold and 25 is baking”

First post: “well not really, I mean here it’s pretty damn cold at -10, in comparison 5 degrees is pretty warm here”

second post by topic starter: “stfu we’re talking about MY temperature range here, dont start comparing this isn’t about yours."

It is very beautifully written and has a strong meaning behind it. Yet America being American they hear the Album name and automatically judge it. It’s the American mentality. Ever since 911 there has been this patriotic bashing going on. You don’t believe what the president says then you are not patriotic. The Green Day Album inforced this even more. Green Day knew that this was controversial but they let it out anyway because they are excerising their first admendment. If anyone would listen to what these guys are trying to tell yah we might be a little better off.

You do know that Green Day is a canadian band.

Um, Billie Joe even said himself that there’s a story behind American Idiot.
Maybe if you guys would stop arguing for just a second and do a little research on the band, you’d know that.

Also, the people who said they’re pop need to get their ears checked.
Yeah, they’re not full on punk like the Clash or the Who, but they’re absolutely NOTHING like Britney Spears or Avril Lavine.
lulz.

christ people are stupid.

they are pop punk. that’s a fact. being pop punk doesn’t mean you’re pop like Brittney spears, even though she is the worst example of an otherwise ok form of music. hell, the ramones were pop punk, but comparing them to green day is a disservice to the ramones.

I don’t even like to call any music 'pop punk'.
If they’re pop, they’re pop.
If they’re punk, they’re punk.
There’s no combination between the two.

that’s the most retarded thing I have ever heard.

That’s like saying someone can’t mix rock and rap. It’s been done.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_punk

It exists. It’s a real genre. Green Day is pop punk.

I win.

Yes, because it really makes sense to argue over what genre one band is over another.
Anyways, back on topic.
Yes, there’s a story behind American Idiot.
But some people are too ignorant to find out what it is before making idiotic comments.

I totally agree with Zucas!! You guys are so dumb if you think that this is only about politics and Bush and republicans! This is the story of the jesus of Suburbia. It’s actually an autobiography of Billie Joe Armstrong, at least the song “Jesus of Suburbia” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends." Billie Joe did lose his father in September and it crushed him forever. And you must be a TOTAL idiot if you can’t hear the story right in there! No one informed me that this was a rock opera, because I could hear it. It’s a deep, emotional rollercoaster pretty much about Billie Joe’s life. So you idiots really should think about what you’re saying and maybe actually listen to the album before you go bashing someone like that! And by the way, Green Day is PUNK ROCK.

You people really don’t know what you’re talking about, do you? First of all, Green Day is not pop. It’s not “Emo” or “Goth." It is PUNK ROCK PUNK ROCK PUNK ROCK!! It takes a little while for this to sink in, doesn’t it? Think about it. Maybe they’re not total punks, maybe because they actually are nice people. But they aren’t goth or emo, and anyone who thinks that is nothing but a retard!! And besides, Green Day is way popular right now. They’ve starred in the Simpsons Movie, and many other movies. They play GREEN DAY on Rock 101, not RAP or HIP-HOP or POP!! They have GREEN DAY stuff at the Hard Rock places, not RAP or any of that!! People are so stupid. They’re complaining about people not listening to the classics anymore and listening to Green Day. What about the people who listen to rap or Disney Channel stars? STUPID!!!!!!!!
