Regular Rep: 6 Joined: 20 Nov 2004 Posts: 1,284 | As I sift through some old (and some not-so-old) posts I notice a few “I stick up for mods because I don’t want to get banned” or “don’t ban me” or “i’m sorry if i sounded insulting, don’t ban me”.
A clarification: You don’t have to fear getting banned for disagreeing. It’s ok to disagree with moderators, so long as you do it in a civilized manner. We are not (well at least I’m not) power freaks who ban or censor because we enjoy the power trip (Note: I’ve never banned anyone). I personally see my task as a *duty* towards visitors of this site. Thus embedded in all my actions in this board is the word RESPONSIBILITY in capital letters. Bjarne vested some power in me and it is implicit that it be used justly and with fairness, and not be abused.
Compared to many others, this board is amazingly lenient. We have very few rules (most of them listed here http://www.moviecodec.com/topics/4000p1.html - I think the most important is “don’t tell people to kill themselves/bash suicidal people” and “extreme use of language”, though the second one can seem a bit arbitrary and is less strictly enforced in the lounge)
The rules are not many, they’re not hard, and they’re not unreasonable either. I’m at a loss why people can’t stick to them. It’s not like we’re asking you to memorize a thick manual full of rules.

I have banned several people, but particularily I.P. addresses of Taurus before he could not be found. I also agree with the clause that if you disagree, you are not banned, but also disagree in a civilized matter. There are many members who believe that getting a point across relies on profound language. Language is being taken much more seriously. However, exceptions are always allowed.
If you believe that somebody should be banned, name the topic and we’ll work on deciding a fair decision. Also write down the page number.
