The thing with writing a song is that you have to:
a) have a topic
b) have a point to it
^those are the main two. After those, comes:
c)plot
d)background/setting
And finally, once you got real experience in writin shit, comes:
e)wordplay; one example of wordplay is usin pop culture references; for instance (and yes, I actually spent time coming up with this for an example):
busted for drugs; the 'fuzz' so up in my tracks I got 'hairy-songs'/
like I did 'four bases' my luck sunk 'lower' than 'barry bonds'//
Not great, but it conveys the point and the reference is still relevant today.
In other words, making a good song is like writin a story w/ the necessary rap characteristic to make it a rap song.. That is, if you goin for storytellin rap. If you goin for bein a battle-rapper, then I’d say you’re fine if you keep improving.
