It takes YEARS of practice. From day 1 and you need to do it every day. Rap basically all you need is to find words that rhyme with each other. Though rap may talk about real life experiences, rock talks about life in general, so more people can relate. Face it, if you sing a song about how let’s say your mom died in a car accident, your dad beat you, and you were shot in the jaw in a drive by, not many people have lead a life like that. However in rock, if you sing a song about living in a tough city and a hard life in general, more people can relate to that.
But the fact is, both rap and rock have mainstreams that too many people base their opinion of that genre on. People who like rock usually base their opinion of rap off of things like 50 Cent, and other such posers. Also rap fans base theirs on things like Green Day, and MTV trash (MTV is by far the center of the world for bad music).
I’m a rock fan, so I can’t name a lot of good rappers aside from 2Pac, but if you want real rock, Guns N' Roses is one of my favorites (and if you are a fan of raps about the ghetto, “Welcome to the Jungle” [from the GTA: San Andreas commericials] is a good song) and has a lot of songs about his wife, kids, and all around hardships. While if you are a fan of rap about women, AC/DC has a lot of songs about that.
I personally think rock takes more effort than rap. Rock you need to practice an instrument (or in some cases practice songing, I would like to hear a rapper sing like Axl Rose), write songs, wait for the other members to get their parts down (drums are not simply banging, you need to hit a specific one with a certain force, and sometimes it can get very fast), and put it all together when with rap you just need to read poetry in a rythm.
If you want some real rock other that shit like Green Day, Sum 41, and Good Charlette, listen to Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Iron Maiden (mostly metal, but still awesome), Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, and Van Halen.

Jimi Hendrix was black and one of the best guitarists of all time, ever. In fact probably THE best guitarist of all time. Also Lenny Kravitz is black and he’s insanly popular. Little Richard was one of the first black rock artists back in the early 1900’s.
