it’s all about the mainstream, everything mainstream sucks. if you listen to 50 cent you’re probably white and dress in fubu and south pole. if you listen to greenday you’re probably emo.

now, let’s talk about skill. pick up a guitar and try playing it. haha! you probably hurt your ears didn’t you? or! get a synthesizer and sample from people that actually have the talent to play a musical instrument instead of copying others like rhip hop artists do. while you have your unoriginal beat with samples to add depth playing in the background start rhyming, oh! this takes alot of skill! no it doesn’t. it just takes half a brain with vocabulary. or if you’re out of words to rhyme make words up like snoop dog.

truth is, rap will always be for the people with a low IQ. if you guys want to hear real rap, though it’s rather angry, download jedi mind tricks. and if you want to hear real rock/metal download killswitch engage. good night and good luck children.

once more...anyone involved in this conversation is a gimp with bad teeth and a mullet. some people like rap, some people like rock, some people hate both, and so on. the only difference is the people, not the music. all music is good to SOMEBODY or it would never get produced. now everybody here should go brush their teeth, get a prosthetic leg and a haircut, and then get on with their existence. one love.

Ok all this rap shit is bullshit i am sick of people stereo typing rockers because music has nothing to do with appearence. i Play the drums bass piano guitar and the saxaphone. they are all incredibaly hard but the hardest is the drums music is my life and i love it. all i do is music and i dont consider rap a music. music is something that takes talent and plays instuments. Rap does none of that i do not dis like rappers but rap is whack. i do not judge people but the second someone insults real music (Rock, Jazz, Blues, Techno) i hate them. i will do anything it takes to get someone to realize real music. anyone that judges rock can suck my dick cuz thats all they can do since they dont play an instrument peace out bitches

Rock is so much better rap is just about that girls ass and crap like that and the only reason it might seem that rock artist talk about things they dont do is because the use metaphors. They dont just come out and say it. Like My Chemical Romance for example “vampires will never hurt you” they’re are useing that as a metaphor. Something that covers a much bigger picture. ALso lyricaly rock is better too. I mean compare “little momma show me how you move it, go head put your back into it, do your thing like there aint nothing too it shake that ass girl"50 cent, to somthing like “oh how wrong we were to think that immortality meant never dieing” My chemical romance. It has meaning and it is poetic and beatiful. So if you really look into it rock is juts more meaningful. The only rap that really seems to have meaning is eminem cuz hes talking about his family. Also Green Day is rock at the time they are living legends they are punk band and punk is a subcategory to rock.
Rock is also a very braod genre because there are so many differnt kinds but raap is just rap.
and if yuo dont like rock maybe your just listening to the wrong people.

In order to see music for what it is, we have to take off the horse blinders. In other words, how can you see left or right if you are limited in vision. Music is not about instruments, its a reflection of life. And yes, rap is bigger than Eminem and 50 cent. You can quote their rhymes, but what if someone who likes rap quotes Marilyn Manson....You can’t put music in a nutshell due to what radio publicizes. Here’s a quote for “some fear what they don’t understand/ hate what they can’t conquer/ that’s just the theory of man/" read between the lines to get a better comprehension of music.

Im not sayin all rap is bad but some have actual messages in it. But THERE IS WAYY MORE BAD RAPPERS than good ones with messages in it. But rock has wayyy more good messages in it. Sure some rock bands look freaky and some has gay music but there is way more awesome rock bands. Sure i used to listen to rap cuz my cuzin and dad did but i never really liked it..i just wanted to be like them...but then one day i heard some rock and i was like whoa, this music is awesome. I actually understand this!! Maybe u guys have heard some bad rock but try hearing some good rock bands and i’ll listen to some rap too if u listen to rock in return

eh I prefer rock but you know none of these arguments are ever going to change anyone’s mind. They just make other people mad and continue the bad blood between the two.

Lyrically, rock and rap are both very different. Great rock lyrics are way more interesting. Rap is just so straightforward with its subject matter. The pride and joy of rap is the fact that it rhymes. That is sooooo boring. Rap pretty much tells you what is going on and is hardly ever thought provoking. Rap tells you directly what is going on. It is just lame.The fact that it speaks about meaningful subject matter does not make the lyrics good, it makes them meanigful. Good rock lyrics can make you think and usually use metaphores which make it way more interesting. On top of this, sometimes they do rhyme. I have seen some so called “good examples” of great, poetic rap lyrics and good rock lyrics tear it apart.

First of all gabe, you and your whole “i hate hip hop crew”, should shut up, and admit that you honestly don’t know what your talkin' about when you talk about rap, cuz u just talk crap. No metaphor’s or interest, straight forward and rock tearin....you probably make those sweeping statements while you listen to 50 cent. you obviously listen to the wrong HH shit. “The pride and joy”...where do you get this shit? I was born in a rock listenin house... Doors and stuff... and I perfer Hip hop and there is no one alive that can compare them both cuz they are to distinct. I have heard rhymes that no person alive could pretend it didnt affect them with the most amazing messages. Hip Hop is a culture with it’s own arts( Contemporary graffiti, clothes fashion, dance, music...). It’s a very rich culture and a tool. It depends how everyone uses it and can’t be judged. This discussion is to me considered a very retrogressive discution, since one who those not respect someone elses opinion is very 17th century. OFF WITH HIS HEAD. So if your gonna diss a culture(since your dissing rap, you diss the culture), in the words of a known R&B ledgend “Shame on you”. Think about this before opening your mouth. Don’t be to proud to accept facts. AND THE SAME GOES TO HH PEOPLE THAT INSULT ROCK.

my Opinion on this is that i don’t have any problems with rap music or rock. we all need to shut the fuck up about whos better {rap or rock}
music is just to express our self and to Entertaine our self thats all it is.
if we going to start {world war3} then {may god help us with this shity world}

i am writing a paper on this topic for college and looking at this really helped i agree with alot of what has been said i don’t think one or the other is better in anyway, but i do see a big average of cultural differences not to stereotype but white=rock black/hispanic=rap am i wrong to think this or is this true??????? and why do you think if yes or no???????

Children, children. Don’t you know that at one time rock and roll was ALL BLACK? Black people invented rock and roll. White kids were listening to it, and this was upsetting to the white establishment. A lot of money making potential was seen in it by music industry folks so white kids started covering black rock songs and it blew up. Somehow blacks were edged out of rock until you had one black dude doing any serious rock by the sixties: Jimi Hendrix. Some black rockers: Lenny Kravitz, Ben Harper, Slash (yeah, he’s black if only half, still counts like Lenny & Ben) Living Colour, Hooty and his Blowfish (where they at anyway?), Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Frankie Lymon, Buddy Miles, just to name a few.
