That said, BHXc, you might hate to know that you just explained the concept of “original sin” - that everything we do is tainted by our self-serving desires.
It’s like being a Christian just so you don’t go to Hell ... very selfish, but at the same time, understandably human.

I found the topic very intriguing  Very good point here...
However in my opinion, selflessness or selfishness is defined by your initial intention to the situation. If your initial intention to help someone is to make yourself happy then selfishness is involve. But if you helped them because you see them suffering and in pain and have would like to help ease their predicament then I would like to assume that act is unselfish...helping others is not an easy task...and sadly not that many people do it now-a-days...sigh...
