hey bjarne, im not sure how long you have been away from this site, but as soon as you take a look around here, please hire more mods.
we only have 2 active mods around here in goldenraptor and SA-X, which just isn’t enough, i know i have pretty much stopped posting here because of all the crap that goes on around here and if we don’t get more moderators to keep this place in check then long time members such as myself will leave this place all together (ive been here for around 7-8 months on 2 accounts)
i am making this thread in a final bid to 'save' this forum, this place use to be my favourite forum, now i pretty much no longer bother coming here and find myself posting on other sites.
I think we’re doing a fine job of keeping things in check, well, for the most part. I usually keep a watch on topics and posts, and Goldenraptor does the same except bans more offenders than I do. Bans don’t come very quickly, if that’s what you mean by cleaning up the forum. They have to be looked into, and if the situation is complicated, consult other Moderators or the Admin, which as you already know, can take days.
Back to where it only said quote/edit, you can now delete and ban. On the topics, you can change names, lock topics (so they can be viewed but not posted in), delete topics, and move topics.
You may have some critism, but SA-X doesn’t because he is more understanding. SA-X knows more about it than I do.
but everything looks exactly the same, there is no edit button on other people’s messages, there is no delete or lock topic, it looks exactly the same as it did last week
at first i thought it was a prank where bjarne just wrote moderator account in my profile, but i dont know what’s going on, add to the fact i dont even know why i would be made a mod, ive never applied or anything
A server is basically a computer that runs a speciel server application and is connected to the internet 24 hours day/7 days a week. As such anyone with an internet connection can set up one at home, however you probably want/need a much faster internet connection.
MovieCodec.com is located on a server in a professional datacenter with several 100mbit connections to the internet (if one breaks down the others will continue to keep the site online. In a datacenter you usually also have support staff, technicians and things such as power backup, ventilation etc.
And how to get one?
You buy and pay a company to have it in their datacenter or you rent one of their servers. Most people probably start out with shared hosting (if we’re talking websites), where a company offers an account on a webserver together with many other clients.
