Video games isn’t an artform. In fact, it is nowhere near art.

Here what art means:

Human effort to imitate, supplement, alter, or counteract the work of nature.

The conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colors, forms, movements, or other elements in a manner that affects the sense of beauty, specifically the production of the beautiful in a graphic or plastic medium.
The study of these activities.
The product of these activities; human works of beauty considered as a group.
High quality of conception or execution, as found in works of beauty; aesthetic value.
A field or category of art, such as music, ballet, or literature.
A nonscientific branch of learning; one of the liberal arts.

A system of principles and methods employed in the performance of a set of activities: the art of building.
A trade or craft that applies such a system of principles and methods: the art of the lexicographer.

Skill that is attained by study, practice, or observation: the art of the baker; the blacksmith’s art.
Skill arising from the exercise of intuitive faculties: “Self-criticism is an art not many are qualified to practice” (Joyce Carol Oates).

arts Artful devices, stratagems, and tricks.
Artful contrivance; cunning.
Printing. Illustrative material.

See, video games don’t match any of those. Video Games never will come far as becoming art. Those who think video games is an artform are morons.

you are completely correct. video game designers dont try to recreate landscapes, life forms, or other figures. and they certainly don’t develope any type of literature or story lines. and I don’t believe i’ve ever heard one note of composed music in a video game. enough with the sarcasm now.

The conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colors, forms, movements, or other elements in a manner that affects the sense of beauty, specifically the production of the beautiful in a graphic or plastic medium. this is what video games are. in actuality the are many artist working on any one video games.

go pretend to be artistic some were else. you discribe a portion of the artistic elements of video games to a T. then you act like everyone is to stupid to see it.

Holy_Troll. you are a fraud.

Take a look at Elder Scrolls Oblivion, the landscapes in that game look so realistic and beautiful that it can most certainly be considered art.

Dead or Alive 4, the game creaters paid so much attention to the smallest details in the character that they took weeks just making a single character’s amrpit.

Final Fantasy VII is often considered as one of the greatest games of all time, it could take you through every emotion possible, up to the very joyous moment when you master your first materis to the very sad and depressing scene when Aerith dies. This game is essentialy and interactive movie.

Music in videogames are getting better and better, they started out with bleeps and bloops but now we have full on orchastrated masterpieces.

and the title of this topic should be.

Video Games aren’t an artform

not all videogames r a form of art
though they do have art in them

but there r games that r masterpieces and even have stories that run deeper than alot of movies that come out these days

Prince of Persia amazed the hell out of me

i finished the game and i was like WTF!? Is this really a videogame!?

this is the same thing that happened to movies when they were newer and began dominating

people who say shit r narrow minded idiots

it’s like saying money is the root of all evil

or blaming tv for violence in the world (it’s peoples' fault)

videogames can be an art
if u say otherwise then God save u

and yes the 21 gamer is right there are times when most games nowadays have a better story and meaning to it then most movies do. example kingdom hearts trilogy has a very good story to it and the graphics are good to . also halo has very good graphics and story to it and you can even say final fantasy .
