Are you talking about Halo 2? The Dual Wielding is quite ingenious. All the drivable vehicles and aircraft set it apart as well. But Halo 2 really concentrated on the multilayer aspect which no online game has seen so much dedication designed for online. Thats the “Meat and potatoes” brought to table right there little one.

First off, the landscapes are hardly repitious as you traverse multiple different setting throughout the game. Second, the guns are certainly more standard than aything else, but Bungie uses them in a way that is far more efficient/responsive than other FPS games. They actually have some sort of depth and feel that is inherently different in each one. Finally, the missions do involve run-and-gun tactics at some level, but most give you an objective and let the payer find his [athway there by approaching the enemy in any wya he sees fit. Try using the same tactics all the way throughout the game on legendary and see how far that will get you.

But you could not mix and match to find effective combos or use melee as an effective tactic.
