It’s been shown in the anime that Naruto can’t die as long as the Kyuubi is inside of him. In the battle between Sasuke and Naruto in the Valley of the End Sasuke broke Naruto’s neck and the kyuubi rehealed the injury. Sasuke also put a hole in Naruto’s shoulder, it took the better part of a minute to heal that.
About Naruto wating his chakra and creating a thousand clones... he’s done it before against Kimimaru and against Gaara. He didn’t seem to waste a lot of Chakra either of the times.
