....so whats metal?
Metal is just another form of music, that has good bands, and it has shitty bands. I love it, but that doesn’t mean anyone else has to. Happy?

b fantasy themes (classic and power metal) c anti-christianity, or dark depressing things (black metal, some death metal, and doom metal) or d extremely graphic as an nihilistic metaphor ( death metal). Vocals can be done death metal style, intentionally gruff, clean, etc.... Happy now?

...no offense but I really dislike metal...correct me if I’m wrong but it seems destructive...and even satanic in nature at some points
Your brain has been fried by right wing propganda. Only black metal is satanic, and some death metal is too. Most metal singers that sings about satan is just doing it for shock value. Destructive, it is not.
isn’t metal the artists who smash guitars and send flames int othe air and are yelling...or is that propaganda too?
Metal players usually look after their equipment very well. Most metal bands will stay away from the whole Satan thing, because it implies at least a partial belief in a religion. black metal is all about being actively anti-Christian though, so you know.. they like that sort of thing.
its not destructive, it can be violent though. violent music = peaceful people.
unless your in a mosh pit, then anything goes.
Now, am I imagining things or is Bruce Dickinson catholic?

Dickinson’s interests include literature, writing, fencing (at which he has competed internationally, and he also founded a fencing equipment company under the brand name “Duellist” [2]), train technology and flying Boeing 757 charter jets for the UK charter airline Astraeus where he is employed as a First Officer. He was taught to fly by British Airways commercial pilot Captain Phil Dales.
On 12 February 2007, Dickinson was given permission to fly Rangers to Israel for their UEFA cup game against Hapoel Tel Aviv. Dickinson asked if he could pilot this flight as soon as he found Astraeus had the contract for it.
He is sometimes called “Conan the Librarian” after a character in the “Weird Al” Yankovic movie UHF, and has been nicknamed 'The Air Raid Siren'. He is also an accomplished guitarist and drummer.
Despite interest in the Conservative Party while at university, Dickinson is known to have supported New Labour in recent years, describing the Conservatives as 'dangerous'.
Dickinson currently presents the Saturday evening “rock show” on BBC radio station 6 Music. He has recently taken the helm of BBC Radio 2 Serial 'Masters of Rock'. He also presented the 5-part historical TV series about aviation; Flying Heavy Metal was shown on the Discovery Channel in the UK. He was also a guest on a Discovery Channel show where he shared his enthusiasm for trains. The most recent television programme he has presented was a show on spontaneous combustion for Sky One called “Inside Spontaneous Human Combustion with Bruce Dickinson”, in which he investigates the phenomenon of this occurrence by enlisting the help of several experts and performing various experiments to determine its possible cause.
He’s much more accomplished than you’d think isn’t he?

Though I am relatively new to metal, (been listening to it for about two months) I believe I have the basic idea of most metal. Metal has pretty much the same idea as rock, and that is to address the world’s problems.
Death Metal- Usually uses symbolism to express problems (this can include gory and brutal lyrics)
Black Metal-I don’t listen to too much Black Metal, but mainly it points these problems towards religeon or cults. Black Metallers usually think religeon is evil. And no, they are not satanic, they are athiests.
Metalcore- It is half metal, but also part hardcore. Usually metalcore shows problems through symbolism like death metal, but not in a brutal way. Metalcore mainly talks about problems with politics and war.
Thrash Metal- Thrash Metal, one of the fastest paced forms talks about nearly the same things as metalcore. After all, metalcore was inspired by Thrash partially.
Power Metal- Talks about problems through fantasy stories, the problem may be a dragon or a kingdom, etc.
There are so many more genres, but those are the main ones.

If they wanted rock, the could check out Led zeppelin, or AC/DC, thin lizzy, ted nugent, pink floyd, rolling stones, eric clapton, queen, Kiss, Jimi hendrix, david bowie, deep purple, aerosmith or alice cooper. Id like to apologize for all metalheads for petrofsky comments, his metal is weak.
Yes, excuse me, I am new to metal.

Ugh.
Death Metal is nothing about using symbolism to express problems or issues. It’s about brutality. End of. The lyrics can be intelligent, but it’s very rare. You don’t find Death Metallers singing about problems in the world. Also, it is far and away the fastest form of metal. Thrash doesn’t come close. That’s why Death and Black are extreme metal, and thrash isn’t.
Black Metal varies in tone, some of it as you say is atheist or agnostic. More of it is concerned with nature and forests, although in a dark, atmospheric sense. Some of the more underground stuff from the early days was very much satanic, indeed one production company, Deathlike Silence, had a stated goal which was to release records by bands “that incarnated evil in its most pure state”.
Many bands hold a distinctly misanthropic and anti-Judeo-Christian attitude. This iconoclastic ideology is typical of black metal bands. Additionally, a few black metal bands have been known to have associations with church burnings, murder, and Nazism.
Early days; a fucking assload of satanism and occult rootings. Even now, 90% of Black Metal bands are firmly entrenched in satanism.
Lastly, neither Black, Death or Power Metal bands talk about 'problems'. That’s not what those three genres are about.
