If u think that all what rock is is bashing instruments randomly and screaming, you are wrong. Being in a very heavy rock band myself, I know that that is not what it is. Some rock is however, actually, it is not even rock, but metal, which is considered as its own genre. The screaming and bashing stereotype is because of the metal subgenres Death Metal and Black Metal. Not all rock is like that check out the songs I have listed below to see the difference. I have listed them from how heavy they are. Higher numbers being heavier, and lower numbers being softer.

6.) “Knee Deep” by Job for a Cowboy, “I Cum Blood” by Cannibal Corpse (both Death Metal)

5.) “Raining Blood” by Slayer, “Body and Blood” by A Perfect Murder (both Trash Metal)

4.) “Coming Undone” by KoRn, “Seen It All” by Korn (both Nu Metal)

3.) “Iron Man," by Black Sabbath, “Immigrant Song” by Led Zeppelin (both Heavy Metal)

2.) “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple, “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC (both Hard Rock)

1.) “Another Brick in the Wall” by Pink Floyd (Psychedelic Rock) “My Girl” by The Beatles (Soft Rock)

Check them out, and u will see the big differences, and that it depends on the genre.

bolocks john! The only hard aspect of it is coming up with something on the spot and even that gets easier with practice and reading the dictionary before bedtime.

Ever heard of the producer/composer?

Take someone such as Trent Reznor or Steve Wilson, or even Mike Akerfeldt. Thinking about it, there’s fuck loads of them.

But yeah, these guys give the band direction by composing the music. That is, coming up with riffs, beats, dealing with all the electronics, and directing the band. The rest of the band has very little input other than actually playing (which they obviously do with the great degree of skill required of them in a studio/session playing situation).

Trent Reznor for instance on his debut Pretty Hate Machine wrote and performed everything on that album. Takes some fucking skill eh?

Compare that to rap and hip-hop artists, who come up with some vaguely rhyming words and rap to a beat.

The producers working for said artists are far and away more talented and skilled, as they also come up with the beats, programming, melody, all that crap.

Now, whether rock or rap is better is subjective and entirely opinion. So can we lay this one to rest guys?

Alot of the times, the person who actually writes the song has to write everything, the lyrics, guitar/bass tabs, drums, and keyboards. That is why a rockstar needs all of those skills, or they cannot write a good song that actually sounds like they imagine it.

I can write a good rock song....and i cant play any instruments.....i can also write alright rap songs.....but I think actually making a better lyrical flow with the song is the hard thing to do with rap......idk....i just can make better lyrics if its a rock song cuz its easier for me

Lets face it, any moron can write anything ever. You just have to look at the Emo kids and Rappers for a demonstration of poor songwriting.

The skill is in composition and actually creating music. Something which rap-boys leave to their producers. Thus implying that Rappers have no musical talent.

Ok, let me define the word freestyle to all you people that think rap is easy.

Freestyling is a term used to describe a 'flow' or a 'spit' in urban slang that is created by rhyming one, two, and sometimes 3 words or even rhyming sentences at a time. The 'rapper' comes up with his material using split second reactions, once he comes up with the first line, he has to have a second line waiting, theres no in-betweens. They continue this pattern until they lose their train of thought and most rappers will come up with an ending. With enough practise and skill, some rappers could go on and on without stopping, and rhyming continuously.

The object of freestyling is usually to 'diss' an oponent, once again by rhyming one, two, three words or sometimes sentences for the more skilled rappers. The more you can insult the oponent, the better it is on the rapper’s behalf.

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — -

The crunk music you hear on the radio, IS NOT RAP! ITS CRUNK MUSIC ! They can’t rhyme good and they stick in a fancy beat and call themselves rappers.

To all of you that say rap is easy and rock is harder, lets see you do a freestyle.

-Remember the flow is continuous
-Rappers can rhyme one, two three, and sometimes sentences at a time.

I suggest having a look at the freestyle rap thread before you take on the challenge, the rhymes have to make sense.

The Real Ace on the freestyle thread can rhyme sentences, and his sentences make sense while dissing the oponent at the same time.

Oh, and to the guest that said rockers have to write a piece for every instrument in the band as well as the lyrics, you’re wrong, they work together. Both ROCKERS AND RAPPERS spend many hours working on songs. Why would anyone want to critisize that ?
