I believe religion was created to understand, but *people* have used it to control *through* belief.
at it’s very root, religion and thus the bible, was created to understand the world, and our place in it. Unfortunately religious belief is the biggest source of control that can exist. --- “close your bodily eye so that you may see your picture first with the spiritual eye” “The artist should not only paint what he sees before him, but also what he sees in himself” ~Caspar David Friedrich~

Being a Christian, I don’t think I’ve been on the “Good Side” of God, but now I have given a second chance. You can’t say it was created to control us, because there are people out there who don’t believe in God and faith. Thats their choise though, its one of the only things God has given them. How was it started? Why was it started? Who started it? WHO CARES. As long as your happy, it doesn’t really matter what religion you are.

UBER 1337 Poster Rep: 3 Joined: 12 May 2006 Posts: 2,132 OFFLINE | What, Muslims? I’ve been around them for 4 years, they are still people. They are still human, even though people look at them negitive. I knew a family who were of the Islamic religion, they were peaceful people. The youngest one would give me bread everytime I saw him, and gave him a piece of candy. The father spoke english and I would frequently speak with him. They arent bad people, but just because a terrorist or and insurgent is from that religion, doesn’t mean their religion told them to do it. Osama Bin Laden and his followers use their religon as a defence. They kill people to start chaos, and to break spirits.
Their customs are differen’t and they have their own laws and beliefs, but they are fine with that. Just like I’m fine with my religion.

I have earned my disillusionment. Rep: 52 Joined: 03 May 2006 Posts: 7,349 | Savage - you’re right that sometimes people misjudge a religion based upon the actions of a few. Some people point their fingers at Islam and call it violent - and forget that in the history of Christianity there were such things as the crusades and the inquisitions... ---

I have earned my disillusionment. Rep: 52 Joined: 03 May 2006 Posts: 7,349 | James - I have often thought myself that there might have been “one truth” out there at some point in time, but that in being handed down through countless generations it got altered. There are too many similarities between many of the different religions to put it down to chance. ---

UBER 1337 Poster Rep: 3 Joined: 12 May 2006 Posts: 2,132 OFFLINE | That was a long time ago, and as you know I don’t think anyone or anything should be judged by its past. From what we see now, not alot has changed, exsept people. It isn’t the religion that goes around killing things, its people who abuse that power or religion. During the crusades, christians and muslims fought each other for land and power. But, even though it was a brutal and horrific time, it did good for the world. Believe it or not, if it wasn’t for the crusades, then the Americas would of never been discovered.
Now, I really don’t see anything wrong with that religion at all. We have muslims in all over the world, and just because a terrorist group is of that religion, doesn’t mean that the religion is attacking us. The people who attacked us on 9/11 were simpley people.
