Gohans strength wasn’t increased by intense training, but by the mystical powers of the Kais. Just like goku going SSJ4, gohan going mystic took shortcuts to increase their power. Vegeta does this also with the machine bulma makes in GT. Goku did not have this luxury in DBZ. And gohan just training would not have acheived this.

Also, when Goku fought Mystic Gohan i nthe innards of BUU, he held his own after turning to Super Saiyan...given that The only reason Gohan even got it to a draw is that he could regenerate, in that place..
BUT, DONT FORGET MYSTIC CANT TURN SUPER SAIYAN, HE’S AT HIS MAX STRENGTH..
until it wears off( like in GT) but, his mystic was stronger than his previous SS form, so....
NOT to mention i WAs a GIANT FAN of GOHAN, until i realized soem things...
1. GOku is an idiot, and never knows when he can beat someone..

I’ll be very unbiased here for everyone who is being way overbiased.
1. Dragonball GT is non-canon, and thus does not count. Only something written by Toriyama Akira-sensei can count, and being that he had no part in Dragonball GT, you can’t really gauge anything from GT into it.
2. Gohan is the strongest at the end of the Buu sagas. After the 10 year gap, it is unsure what his power is at. There is one known thing. Gohan kept moderate training so his power would not decrease again, BUT not enough to help it increase. Gokue trained for 10 years, very intensely, so it is likely that Goku is more powerful in the end, but that is up for debate, being that not even Toriyama-sensei has stated anything about it.
3. The design for the entire Dragonball series, as stated by Toriyama Akira-sensei in his final published Dragonball works was, and I quote in translations that make sense: “It was always my intention from the beginning of the Dragonball Manga to have this child grow up, father a son, and have that child become the hero in the series. My design changed a bit after the battle with Cell, as I realized my fans wanted Son Goku to be the hero. I decided to make Son Goku the hero, but also make Son Gohan the strongest. When the last villain died, Son Gohan was at least ten times stronger than Son Goku. I must also stress, that the Dragonball GT series is not, and never will be endorsed by me as part of MY series. It was written and created by the studio that bought my Manga and animated it. I can only speculate they wanted to make money off of the popularity of the series. I was in no part involved with the creation of that series, and to me, it was a horrid story..." He goes on for quite a while more about the series, but this is all that really matter.
4. You people need to stop being such diehard fans of your characters, and learn to get over the fact that they may not be the strongest, or best, or whatever. Stop defending them like morons. Now, honestly, I can’t say this towards the people defending Gohan, because they were correct, and they may have just been well informed people posting, and not diehard fans. But the people defending Goku with that moronic passion, you need to learn that Goku was not stronger and get over it. Goku is an awesome, cool, courageous, massively important character. Can’t you be happy with that? Can’t you be happy that the entire series revolved around the fact that ever end to a villain was because of something Goku did? He’s not the strongest (get over it), but he is the most influential.
5. I don’t know if anyone did, but never bring the dubs into the conversation either. When companies dub an anime, they change the lines sometimes, and sometimes this impacts the supposed strength of a character. And remember, the anime also adds things in to lengthen it, and change the story a bit. The studio decides what these things are, not the author. So your best bet for information is the manga itself, since it is 100% correct right from the author him/herself.

One movie was endorsed by Toriyama Akira-sensei as canon. That would be Bojack Unbound. It is the only movie that is canon. Every other movie is non-canon, and cannot in any way reflect power from the series.
AND... Yes, Mystic can’t turn Super Saiyan, BUT, Mystic is an enhanced form of Gohan which surpasses his previous forms. He has to attempt to transform into Super Saiyan to even release his Mystic Powers. He cannot ever return to any Super Saiyan form he possessed before he went Mystic (though, he can Transform again, and surpass Mystic, though this never happens). Also, there are various levels of Mystic, as some may know, but most are unaware of. It’s basically like Super Saiyan, because he needs to go Super Saiyan to go Mystic. Basically, Mystic Goahn is his super saiyan forms enhanced twenty times over. Gohan has two Mystic Forms, but we only ever see Mystic Gohan 1 in the series. That being said, it is speculated that if Gohan had time to power up to Mystic 2, he would have been able to beat Buutenks (speculation, but probable).
