Jew is a short word for Jewish. Someone who is Jewish may take offense to being called a Jew, does that make it derogotory? No, even though the word has been used as a derogtory term in the past, now it just means someone who is Jewish. Some Jews take offense to the word, oh well.

Jew is not short for Jewish. It exists because Jewish cannot be used in every context.
Judaism is NOT a race, it is a religion. Also, most Japanese find jap offensive. Majority rules all.

It was made specifically for the propaganda and insulting but yes the laziness is probably a smaller factor.

The word jap did not come into existance until WWII for the sole purpose of propaganda, demonization, and insulting the Japanese.
