If you want to get into the game terms and everything it’s fine, Cloud is unbeatable when you’re sticking to gameplay like that.
Summons never miss in FF7, so Cloud casting Knight of the Round is an instantly victory for Cloud. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

Wow, great job on repeating something I’ve said at least 10 times in this thread alone.
First off you could say that they are evenly matched in entirely to many ways. Cloud lost his mind!! He was pretending to be Zack the whole time, living the life of someone else! He never made it into soldier....Hojo just did tests on him with the Mako. Squall has been in the mercenary school since he was five years old. I think that gives him the right to be classified as a “very skilled” swordsman. (the best that the garden had ever seen)
If you take away the summons and make them fight one on one it is a toss up. Clouds materia system is much more effective than Squalls GF’s. Plus he has to have one junctioned in order to have his power! So if you say that you cannot summon then Squall cannot have a GF equipped, in which case, that makes him extremely weaker. So Cloud would kill him in a hurry! So you would have to take away the materia bonus for Cloud. Now that.....that would be a great fight!
You could go around with this anyway you want....but it really comes down to personal opinion.

Agreed. So what that he never made it into SOLDIER. He took Sephiroth out before he’d seen a single Jenova cell or any Mako. Squall is skilled, sure, but when you look at what the two characters go up against (ignoring optional bosses), Cloud still tackled much worse odds and came through it stronger.
