They are so inaccurate with the careers too. A bunch of gay shit popped up on the screen. Then for writer it says it requires no thinking and is one of the easiest jobs. I was like WTF?! It’s one of the hardest jobs if anything. Yes, you can write a shit book but to write a good one that is near impossible for many. --- Club: Ramunematt Is A Fucking Dumbass

It’s impossible to get anything lower than 100% ya door knob. The only way you could fail is if you’re not completely honest with yourself. ---

Yes I do. It’s not that complicated. You don’t need to take a class to understand that what’s on the paper and it’s in plain English. ---

PSHHH...Damn teens think they know everything.
You don’t need classes for all this stuff? Okay smart guy, step into my world. (this is easy 101 elementary type sh*t right here).
1. What type of weld is this?
2. What size of weld (weld=A) should be required on this connection (stabilizer plate to column web and shear tab) given the Design Load Criteria?
3. How much load capacity will this connection hold in shear, lateral, and gravity?
For your info:
I’m using AISC 13th edition and AWS.
Let me give you some basic Design Load Criteria:
Framing = 8
Wind factor = 1.00
Exposure Category = C
3 second gusts 110/49
Seismic Design Category = C
Seismic Use Group = 1
Seismic site Classification = D
Let’s just say for this connection we’ll be using a W18x40 steel column and the beam framing in, we’ll use a W14x22. The shear tab tab will be 1/2 inch thick and the stabilizer plate shall be 1/2 inch thick as well.
You’ll need to know material grades right? But you already knew that. For this I’ll go with the typical.
Structural shapes and plate = A36
Wide flange shapes = A992
Bolts = 3/4” Diameter A325-N bolts thru standard holes in connection material and supported beam. (13/16” Diameter Hole size typical)
Weld Electrode = E70XX
That’s all the material required for this connection.
Now smart ass, Answer it! It’s an easy run of the mill question. In my line of work I could answer it without doing calcs it’s soo standard. Also keep in mind there are design criteria to follow, if not met can result in the whole building collapsing thus the lawsuits start and you’ll never work again (not to mention the lives it could take). Go ahead, I’m waiting.

I am not an expert at it but the blueprints aren’t that complicated, they’re just basic directions on how to do it and what it should look like. If I took the time to sit down and study it I bet you I could understand them. Now being able to recreate what was on paper is something else. If there is something you don’t know you just look it up and read what it means. You don’t need a class to learn to do something. You need a class to be certified and classified as a professional and proof that you can know what it is. ---

Not always the case. At first glance, yes, anybody could understand the BASICS of what a drawing means. But to create it, and be accurate, and know the trade can take years of knowledge. You could go to college for 5 years and then be hired on an actual job and still be a dumb sh*t because of inexperience in the real world. There’s just so many tiny minuscule things that most people don’t know. Not only that but you have to be accurate. There’s no room for mistakes in the real world. I’m not talking about typing errors either. There’s major repercussions to think about. That’s what makes all the difference.
Anyhow, here’s the answer to my question. I’ve modeled it up in an actual job given the criteria.

You can always learn from others and figuring out with your own small projects. You can find other related blue prints and look at houses and find out the specifics on them and put 2 and 2 together, granted, for some people that may be harder than just taking a class but for others that’s an easier way to learn. I’m not saying you can just go out there and be an expert by reading a book but you can get there without school. School is not the only way to learn.
Do you think school actually taught me how to read and write?
The answer is no. It let me exercise my abilities but didn’t teach me much except the basic letter writing format.
All the grammar, words, and such I learned from reading on my spare time. All the rules for English I learned from reading on my spare time.
From that I learned how to write stories from the books I read and how they wrote theirs. Believe it or not this was the 1st year in school that I have ever had to write a story instead of an essay and I’ve slept during English class since 9th grade. It easily got an A+ and a note sayign I should get it published. ---
