I work for RedOctane, and have some insider info on the devolopment of GH3. One thing I can tell you is that it will be a PS3/360 release, and any music stored on the hard drive of that system can be used in the game under freeplay mode!!!!!!!!!! The way this is accomplished is that the game will pick up on the guitar parts of any song and translate that to GH3 gameplay. But one negative aspect of the feature is that (as of right now) there is no difficulty choice and the software as of right now can translate any one song to about a easy-medium difficulty. On the other hand along with the release of the game (date still unknown/still in devolopment) which ever console you own you will be able to buy “GH tracks” via PS online/X-Box Live. These tracks (about 100 planned upon release with more as time goes by) can be played at any difficulty. As far as what those tracks will be, and the tracks available on the game itself I do not know (there’s contracts to be made we can’t put songs in our game for free), but the Creators have expressed intrest in atrists like Cream, Pink Floyd, Yes, Van Halen, Pantera, Metallica, Korn, Def Leppard, Bob Seger and more. Wether or not chosen tracks will go to the game itself or be available to download I do not know. Look for the track list for the game shortly after a release date for the game is released, and the track list available for download closer to the actual release of the game, and as always email us here at RedOctane and tell us the songs you want to play, it helps more than you know. :.)

no way lol.
1. if you can play ANY song on that game from your hard drive, then the song would have to be specially formatted, like a karioke CD.
thats all i dont believe. but special Guitar hero songs, i believe. the rest soudns awesome, i hope this is true.

yet the media hardly talked about it, now that its on the 360 its in the top 10 most anticipated games. why??? is it cus ps2 has heaps of highly anticipated games like final fantasy 12? when does it come out in NZ btw
A Guitar Hero game for the Wii isn’t confirmed, it’s all speculation. Red Octane would like to work on a music game for the Wii though, they were thinking something with drums.
Anywho this guy is full of shit, it would be next to impossible to have any song on your hard drive be formatted for the game. I could see a selection of 100-200 songs that are really popular that can only be played if the MP3 exists on the hard drive, but there is no way they can fit hundreds of thousands of maps in the game for it.
Also, the idea of Guitar Hero having 100 songs in the next installment is pretty far-fetched as well, the last game on the PS2 has 55 songs, they’d be almost doubling the song selection in order for that to happen, which is unlikely.
The only thing that is viable is the downloading of new songs via an update with the console because the 360 version of Guitar Hero II will already do it.

You didn’t completly read what I said, did you. What I said was that Our software has a way of reading songs and mapping them out to guitar parts, but like i said earlier is that It will have no difficulty selection due to lack of software technology and that any songs off of your hard drive will be set at a difficulty very close to easy.
And I never said GH3 will be released with 100 songs, the 100 songs are the amount of songs that will be available for download via Xbox live/ PS network. The game itself will have about the same # of tracks in itself as the other 2 games

I read all of what you posted, if there was a way to automatically map the songs via a type of program then chances are that the same technology would have been in use for the PC rip off Freetar Hero. So I find it doubtful that you’re telling the truth about it.

thats what i was thinking, the updates are COMPLETLEY possible, but reformatting a song and scanning it isnt, there might be a possible way, but very slight chance, that you can take a song off of your hard drive and make your own song, for easy, medeum, hard, and expert levels, but that would be time consuming and VERY hard to make
I own the first two games and personally i thought the first one was better than the second for god sake can u guys redeem yourselves not that the second was bad im just scarecd that it might be goin down hill and who wants that good job for whoever created this amazing game

how would u play guitar hero on the wii anyways, the nunchuck cord is too short to use as a pic
Red Octane has already said that if Guitar Hero were to come to the Wii that they wouldn’t make any exceptions because of the Wii Remote. They’d release a Wireless Guitar that works with the Wii. They also said it would be awesome to implement motion sensing to the Guitar so that however you hold the guitar or move it is how your avatar in the game is holding it.
