The Magnificent Bastard Rep: 69  Joined: 28 Dec 2006 Posts: 19,605 | Over in Australia we have alot of problems with 'BOAT PEOPLE' That is, people who flee their country on a little boat, sail over to Australia and try to enter the country illeagaly. We then catch them and then detain them in Detention Centres till they can be protested and sorted out.
Now these people claim that the conditions where they come from are soo bad that they had to flee or die, yet they complain about being locked up, fed, sheltered, given pay tv, clothing ect saying that they should be free. They even kill them selves in protest...WTF
Anyhow, DEBATE THIS TOPIC... ---

Then imagine you flee to another country in an attempt to secure a better life for yourself. Then you get put in prison for not being able to secure the proper paper work...how would you feel? ---

Tat is where the problem lies, here in America legal tax paying citizens are losing their jobs because of illegal immigrants. In this situation, they’re causing a hell of a lot of trouble for us.
So, you know, even if they don’t like being locked up, it’s better then being killed in your own country for speaking your mind, right?

That they do, hell I’m considering hopping ship to Australia to be an illegal immigrant thanks to you, it’s certainly better then having to work for what little food I have.

The problem with Baxter Detention Centre is that there are several bad rumours of neglect...Substanciated or not i dont know, what i do know is, i would rather be imprisioned than dodging bullets and kids with macheties. thats for sure.

It’s very difficult to make generalizations as every case is different. However, a lot of immigrants - illegal or otherwise - take jobs that American citizens don’t want to.

Although that is true, it still means that legal citizens have less of an opportunity to procure a job in their own country.

No thats fine, it is the truth afterall. The English invaded Australia and killed a great many Aboriginies and that is something we are working through right now. we call it re-conilliation, where we are giving the aboriginal people back their land that we stole. that in its self would make a great debate topic if there were more Aussies on here, but i seem to be the only one *sniff*
See i strongly disagree with what the english did, however i can say that i in no part, even through my ancesstors was responsible. I have very strong German and Austrian Heritage. infact my ansestors have only been in Australia for less than 80 years.

Its no more their fault that their country is in war and peril, than it is my fault that all those Aboriginal people died and lost their land.
