Well, IMO i think its complete bullshit. They are just lookin for a fast way to make a buck. Hell now days they put you on pills for every little thing. Like depression, you can get over that mentally, a pill isnt gunna help u, ive seen people who supposedly had “depression” and wen they got on pills and shit it just made it worse cuz' they thought they had a big problem and shit. Well later on the person stopped taking them and what do you know??? They feel a whole let better.

I have a friend who has it, he’s easily distracted and can’t concentrate on a single thing for more than a few minutes. He’s really smart, almost as intelligent as myself, but he makes D’s in school because he says he gets distracted by all the posters on the walls in his classroom.

Well it really depends on what the depression is caused by. If it is a chemical imbalance, then meds can be helpful. But, I always think it’s best to take meds only when you have to.

Plus, part of the problem is doctors don’t always prescribe you the medicine that would work best for you...they prescribe you meds that are produced by whatever company they have struck a deal with....

Pharmaceutical companies approach doctors and ask them to prescribe only their meds...and offer them perks (trips, etc.) They also have a tendency to have “conferences” in really expensive hotels or at really fancy restaurants that are really nothing more than pushing doctors to prescribe a particular product.

Not that all doctors do this (I used to personally know one who refused to), but enough do that the companies continue their efforts.

I would just like to say that ADD or Attention deficiet Disorder is real!

I have lived with it my whole life and i refuse medication. It makes me who i am and despite my shortcommings, i have learnt to live with it.

ADD does not mean you are stupid, far from it actualy. It basicly is a in ability of your brain to stay focused on oine thing for long periods, you naturally get distracted and drawn to other things. It took me over 10 years to control my ADD to a point where i can study in a room with other distractions and noises. At 25 i have found out that i have a IQ of 138(offical test not one of those bolloky internet things) and that while i am smart in my head, it is sometimes difficult to express my self through tasks.

I happen to think that all Highly intelligent people have some kind of ADD, simply because the brain has trouble harnessing its inner quiet to assess your surroundings.

Now i got tested for ADD and ADHD in the 80’s before the whole selling drugs excuse came about. I do think the term is abused a little and for proper diagnosis to take place, brain and psycological tests should be done. I had brain chemsetry tests, cat scans, phycological tests the lot.. I also had a speach impediment and co-ordination problems, so whether they were linked ..who knows...the point is ADD is real and im living proof. People can believe what they want, only the people with this affliction can truly say just how real it is!

Hmmm, well, it’s one of those diseases that may or may not be with a person, but can easily be mis-diagnosed just because of the symptoms.

I believe it is most definately a real disease, but has attributing factors. If somebody was to watch me during a normal day, they 'may' think i have it.

But it’s because sometimes, if im doing something and being watched, i cannot concentrate at all (very slight case of it but remember that being shy 'can' be a major life problem for some),

And on other occasions, my diabetes makes me behave very weird indeed. Reality goes out of the window, and i cannot possibly concentrate on things. I become agitated, and the more i try to fight the lack of concentration, the worse i get. Just being stupidly frustrated inside.

Anyway, its all OK, cos ive got my very own big padded cell now (well big compared to the last one i had - standing room only!).

And this one has a window in it. OK, its only a drawing of a window, but it is a window non-the-less.

===========================================================================

Actually, it’s happening to me now. Cant thing properly. Thoughts are too mixed and coming too fast to be used properly. I need food. I will check this message later, to see if it needs editing smiley

bye for now sad

ADD is very real. It is also overdiagnosed as someone said earlier (wasn’t paying attention). I know it’s real becuase I suffer from it. And no I don’t mean I like to read the wall, then I listen to other people talk, etc. I mean, it is sometimes IMPOSSIBLE for me to focus. It can be totally quiet with NO distractions and I can still not be able to focus on what I’m doing. Sometimes, I forget what I’m doing as I’m doing it. Why? Not paying attention. Anyone that says ADD is made up to pedel drugs either doesn’t have it and can’t understand what it’s like, or they think everything is a conspiracy.

Oh and those people that say that ADD just means that they’re gifted are also bullshit. I’ve seen people that obviously have ADD that are dumber than a twig. I’ve also seen gifted people that have more focus than a friggin computer. Who says you can’t be gifted and ADD like me? (Yes, most of my teachers say I should be in gifted, but I’m not because I can’t focus on the work in class. I’m not just embellishing).

Well, OBVIOUSLY I cant vouch for all ADD sufferers, But like you said, Some of them are as thick as Pig shit and others as sharp as a tack.

One thing is true though, ADD sufferers cant realise their true potential unless they drop the meds and train their brain to overcome the illness.

^true very true

However, sometimes you just need the meds to help you focus in class. I know I do, and all my teachers for the past 7 years agree.
