Sorry to say, but I don’t think it’s real. This was a rumour that was talked about months ago.
UPDATE: Apparently the 1UP.com source was just an old rumor. For now, don’t take anything involving these characters as confirmations in either direction, in or out

Nope Ridley has a strong possibility of being in the game as does someone like Sonic. No sarcasm. It’s just no confirmation yet.

IGN has news from the GDC this week and tommarow on G4 on attack of the show there should be some info on nintendo, Weather news on Brawl or any other major wii title is released IGN would put it as one of the major recent headliners, we will soon find out who else is in the game soon enough.
