Of course, you can’t have a debate section without a discussion about religion. I would like this thread to be used as a base for people to post their thoughts/ideas on religion, and reasons of why they do/do not believe in any kind of deity/s and why.
I personally do not believe in God or omnipotent beings the way it is dictated to us by a lot of religions nowadays. I do, however, believe that there are several things that science cannot explain, such as the power of the mind and very likely things as ghosts. To be completely honest I have no idea made up my mind yet as to what I believe...
Ahh... I’m seeing a lot of potential for this going from a good clean debate topic to a big creationism/atheistic evolutionist war. Hopefully the mods will keep an eye on it.
I personally am a Christian, and I’m proud of it. I believe in the Trinity and I believe that God is the Great Architect of the Universe, by which I mean I believe in creationsim. I also think that trying to compare humans today to humans in the Torah books (Genesis-Deuteronomy) is hard to do, as humans then had still seemed to have a much closer relationship with God.
I also believe in Adam and Eve. I’ll probably catch a lot of flack for saying so, but I do. Some of you may use inbreeding as an excuse, but to be honest, I don’t think that THEN it was a problem, as it was simply for populating the Earth. I also believe in the flood and that we are apparently descended from Noah and his sons.
I attend a Baptist church at least once a week, and was going to get baptised on Easter, but decided to wait until the Sunday after my birthday (12th I think)
I am a Christian, I was raised to believe in God and so I remain today. My father is a Bishop for the Church of God, he’s also a traveling preacher, so as a result I’ve been to several different churches throughout the United States. With the things I’ve seen, I honestly can’t deny a higher power even if I wanted.
well i really haven’t got a great knowledge of religion. i admirer any one that has that Faith i reely do. i think it makes you a stronger person.
but i have great difficulty in believing that if there wos something there that claims that we are all hes childrun why dose he alou all the pain and suffering and i know its an old argument but still, WHY?
and the bible contradicts its self to much in like it says that god well forgive all but then it says things like if you cermet adultery you well burn in hell for all eternity. know that doesnt sound very forgiving to me. i mean i well forgive you my son but you well sill burn baby.
well, i dont beleave in christianity for the simple reason that my grandmother died of chilberth because the church, wouldn’t let her not have anymore kids,,,the bad part is that the baby didn’t even survive this,,,,plus she left 5 kids behind her,,,,,,i know that now things have changed but i am just stating why i dont bealeave

Well... Religion is created by our brain in an attempt to explain the world and the creation of it, I’ve learned that in Pschycology... (I’m getting a headache just thinking of how everything could have been created from nothing)
Also, it MIGHT have been a way to justify one’s actions.
For instance, the Crusades were created by the Christians because all Moslems are hethans.
The war in Israel is because the Moslems think all the Jews are Infidels which have stolen their land.
Whatever the underlying cause is (money, glory, land) it wasn’t enough to convince the public that a war is the correct action.
The reason for the diversity of religions is that a person wanted to do something (e.g. having several wives or drinking wine) even if the current religion doesn’t approve of it. What do one do? Create a new religion, of course. That doesn’t mean that all religions are fake, some could have been inspired by a divinity or a great man with great and good thoughts.
I’ll probably go to hell when I die because of this thread.. (I am not an atheist, although one might think so.)
