I agree but how about Travis Bickle, his characters from goodfellas,casino ronin, and meet the fockers? He can do comedy while Pacino can’t. Hold on, is Simone considered a comedy?
Right. No doubt that Pachino was the man in Scarface but De Niro has way more range and ability than Pachino over all. Just look at their portfolio. Robert de Niro has been in more character roles and more movies than Al Pachino.
I would classify De Niro as the better Actor.
As for the whole Edward Norton and Christian Bale issue.
Christian Bale has done plenty of method acting just like Nicholas Cage. he has been in a wide range of roles. He lost heaps of weight for The Machinist and bulked up for Batman Begins. he played a Narcissit with frightening accuracy in American Psycho and shone alongside fellow Aussie Hugh Jackman in the Prestige.
Edward Norton’s most stand out performance that comes to mind was his portrayal of a reformed White Supremest in American History X and maybe his Schizoid dual personality in Fight Club. Everything else is just as good as any other mainstream actor as far as I am concerned.
Edward Norton was good in Spike Lee’s “The 25th Hour” and on “The Illusionist which I have to say is an awesome movie. Probably as good as “the Prestige” in a different way.
