Yes, 3 PS3’s. Why did he have 3 all networking? There was the host PS3, then the other 2 were helping render the image.

The Cell is one processor...Its not technically a multicore CPU. 3 cores...lol

More than 9 SPE’s...He doesn’t clarify very well, but I’m pretty sure the 2 render aides are using 5 each for the ray casting and ray tracing.

20 CPU’s...20fps...All its doing is shadows. The polygon count probably doesn’t even hit 10 million (I’d be willing to say not even 1 million)...Yes its advanced, but it goes to show you how far we have to go.

You’re so much more well-read in the subject of 3-D imaging.

I mean, ray tracing is only the algorithms that simulated the infinite effects of rays on geometric surfaces, down to the individual pixels. This effect is really the step above shader technology and code, allowing for the same effects but far better, more dynamic, and more realistic. It allows for true, real-time reflections upon reflections upon reflections upon reflections. Take the image I showed you. Its reflecting the objects as much as possible within the reflections. Its a continual cycle. That’s just reflections. It can also replace shadows and lighting.

Its also extremely power hungry. I can’t explain the algorithms since I’ve merely glanced over them.

i would say next gen, posibly this gen since ps3 is getting games that use the crysis engine it can make even more realistic looking faces, and it may not all look exactly the same but they will have other techniques to make it luk that good, and that cg movie isnt even in 720 p, so i beleive current consoles CAN outperform that, when i dont no but i would think withen 5 years, but it wont be reglulary that good, i mean look at lair, its pretty much just after ps3s launch and already it looks amazing, just imagine what games could look like in 2-3 years time

And Lair looks absolutely horrid, the textures are scary and the jaggies make my eyes bleed...

And that movie has an HD version.

Also, that pic alone looks better then anything out so far, no game looks that good yet.

The detail in that is amazing, i think they made that movie using a super comp, no way a 360 or ps3 could get close.
