The PS3’s top-spec performance has earned it the love of Square Enix developer, Tetsuya Nomura, who gave Sony’s shiny box some serious props in a recent interview with Dengeki Playstation Magazine.

The enthusiastic level designer gushed: “It’s not just about how pretty the graphics are but more of how much limited [we think he means unlimited] amount of movement we can put in one go and how big our imagination and ideas are."

He goes on to enthuse (clearly, this time): “The PS3 is the machine that is closest to being able to express our imagination."

He later reveals how Square Enix is aiming to give the Final Fantasy series a change of gameplay with the thirteenth game in the long-running RPG series. “The action elements will be high in the game but instead of defeating the enemies from an audience’s view, I want to give people the taste of actually being part of that world. The assignment here is whether we can build an FF with the suspense and thrill of Third-Person-Shooting or not. In that sense, the game will be a slightly different type of FF.“

Is it just me or did this just completely kill any chance of the Wii or 360 getting a Final Fantasy XIII game?

I kinda agree.. But There are already FF games for the DS and GBA... So you never know.. They already partnered up with Nintendo.. I dont think They’ll stop now. (maybe they will make for multiple consoles?)

Square Enix just knows how to work with the PS3 better.

I don’t blame them, why bring the game to another console when the one you have now will give you optimal sales and gaming quality?

Still, i’m sure there is a 360 owner out there who likes FF crying in a corner right now. They should at least think about those people... you know?

Wow Square Enix pretty much signed their own death wish. NOt supporing the Wii right now is insanely stupid. And when they see how well Dragon Quest Swords sales in Japan they’ll say fuck were idiots haha.

Not really, the wii simply can’t bring out what they want... at least for FF XIII.

YOu mean FFXIII.

No but a spinoff would have been perfect. Crystal Chronicles 2 sure will be huge on Wii but that’s what they need to be thinking. Wii is running away with the Japanese market easily. FF and DQ, ect and most of their franchises are huge in the Japanese territories. They need to start thinking smart and support the system that’s going to make them the most out of that. A smart man from Valve once said, the Wii took many by surprise and the lack of support caused many companies to take in losses.

He’s exaclty right. In that instance he was immediately talking about EA by the way. But Square went under a lot of low sales recently because it took them so damn long to give full support for the DS. I mean can you believe that. NOw DQIX is for the DS.

Square is soon going to have to release that Wii is the top console in Japan and that’s where they need to at least put some of their big games. Dragon Quest Swords, when it releases in a week, will definetly point that out.

They are going to have to make time. Cause the logic they are putting out is like supporting the GC last gen with all their big games over the PS2.

No, i don’t think you are understandy standy zucas, this is the ps3 (AKA, the FF fanboy home-base), it will get good enough sales, prob better then whatever they put on the Wii.

Never doubt the power (and stupidity) of the mighty FF fanboys. =P

Wasn’t all that way. FF used to be a premier series on the Nintendo consoles if ya don’t recall. Huge on NES and SNES.

But above that it doesn’t matter how huge of a fanbase is in Sony Blood. The fact of the matter is PS3 has yet to even sale a million in Japan yet. There’s a 2-3 million FF fanbase that buy the game on the first day. Meaning that most of them dont' ahve a PS3. Most are probably going to end up a Wii. Even worse for Square is that FFXIII will suffer huge losses in sales becuase the PS3 fanbase is so small. Cause even if by FFXIII release PS3 has at least 3 million sold, which it probably won’t, not all 3 million are going to buy the same game. Usually the tie in ration for releases of games that huge and that far into a console’s life is about 20%.

Square is going to lose a lot by releasing their premier game on a system that is dead in their main market.

Square has to have a plan, they’d be stupid to support only the PS3 at this time... I wonder what they have up their sleeves... Of course they do have a lot of revenue coming in from other things right now, the various Final Fantasy ports, Dragon Quest, and the other stuff they have coming... but can that really support the company?

They’ve got something big planned, something that is either going to sell a lot of PS3s or something that they’re gonna be releasing on another console.

Am I the only person seeing the possibility of a certain game being announced for the PS3 AND 360 soon?

There is nothing out there that can sale a $600 pricetag by the way. What they need to start doing is thinking big things for Wii and DS. If anyone looks at weekly Japanese sales who is the big publisher when it comes to sales. NIntendo. Didn’t always use to be that way. Used to be Square Enix. Now companies like Capcom and Namco seem to be surpassing them. They need to start changing with the times. When it comes to Japan Nintendo is in and Playstation is out. They’ve been suffereing for the last 2 years case of old age thought. They need to get with the times.

Will FFXIII ever go to 360? Probably not. Wouldn’t make sense at all really.

I mean in no way am I saying Square needs to put all their big games just on Wii. I’m just saying Crystal Chronicles and DQ Swords is minimal support. That and some Chocobo game. They need to start putting some more games in those whether it be ports or remakes or new spinoffs.

What I think Square needs to do is announce something big for the Wii. Something that’ll get them installed into that market to help them out in the main market. And because Disney is in love with Wii right now I think Kingdom Hearts 3 has a strong chance of being on the Wii. It would be a perfect transfer for the series. And because Disney is half the game as well it would seem the most likely. I’m not saying it’s going to happen but it’d be a smart move on Square’s part.

Cid - No, i disagree with Zucas, i believe expanding outward is wiser, especially at the moment.

Zucas - I gave you my reasons in an earlier post, i don’t want to repeat myself.
