Agent of Chaos Rep: 47  Joined: 10 Aug 2005 Posts: 38,733 OFFLINE | Something that I think makes a game more than how pretty and ultra realistic the graphics are is the use of sound in a game. In generes like suvival horrors how you use music and sounds effect really how good a game is. In action adventures having that epic feel of traveling is felt through the music. Here’s my top music compilations in a game:
3. Resident Evil 4
This game is the one of the most amazing games. And in my opinion was the greatest game of the last generation and still yet to be beating by anything in the 7th generation aside from Twilight Princess. But what made this game so deliciously and malignantly scary and haunting was the sound. Entering a village and hearing the calm sounds of everyday life and then all of a sudden hearing a Ganado scream in Spanish and this deep eerie music plays. Or in an intense scene hearing this music that makes your heart beat faster. Or while in the Castle waling into a room where a cultist notices you but you can’t see him and all you hear are these echoing evil sounds from them. Or the worst sound ever hearing a chainsaw rev up. Sound made this game creepier than most games had ever been before. RE4 was an amazing survival horror with one of the major reasons being the excellent use of music and sounds in the game.
2. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
Sonic games have always been knownn for their licensed music and orchestrated music otherwise. But Sonic Adventure 2 outdid itself. Aside from the crappy voice acting, the game’s music was amazing. Such as the final fight against the Ultimate Lifeform the music was amazing by a great band. This game’s music was amazing and really made unlocking soundtracks a must have goal.
1. Legend of Zelda: Ocarin of Time
This was the game to set a new precedent in how music was used in games. The music in this game is what seperated it from any other game that was there at the time. The sprinting across Hyrule field on horseback hearing this epic music made you never want to get off the horse. Or the eerie music played in a dungeon. Or the greatest of all playing the beautiful melodies throuh your ocarina. The music that was in the dungeons, the open world, the sounds of doing stuff, and the songs that you played yourself were amazing, wonderful, and beautiful. That is why to me Ocarina of Time takes the cake for it’s wonderful masterpiece in music.

AHAHA!! No.
Final Fantasy is known for it’s music while those games aren’t. The reason is because Final Fantasy has better music. Ocarina of Time even had crappy music because it was all video game sounds and not actual instruments.

Yeah, in your opinion but fact is the music is crap. It may be my favorite game but I can at least admit how crappy the music is with computer sounds instead of real music.
I even like the Zelda song but there is a difference between a catchy tune and a good artistic song. You obviously don’t know the difference.

Please do learn the difference because it is getting quite annoying when you take a fact and say it is my opinion.
You see, I agree with you that the music is 'good' but the fact is it isn’t.
I keep my opinions separate form the facts. I can like crappy music but in the end it is just crappy music.

My opinion: Zelda’s music is good
Fact: Zelda’s music is catchy (no instrumentation and full of computer sounds and probably can’t even sell a cd)

Fact is the Zelda music use full orchestra for most of it’s music. Don’t even have to prove it. Just go contact one of the greatest video game musicians of all time, Koji Kondo.

Zelda’s music is only catchy. As much as I like the song it’s only catchy. It really doesn’t provoke much feeling at all. It does add to the game but without it it’s nothing.
I highly doubt people would actually put Zelda on their ipods unless they’re obsessed with video games. Who in their right mind who isn’t obsessed with video games and isn’t living in their video game fantasy world would listen to Zelda in the middle of class?
A catchy tune, nothing more.
In the end Tony Hawk and GTA would have the greatest music compilation. Of course not original and very thoughtful but still the best. The reason being is the music they compile tend to come from actual professional music artists and not video game creators.
Really, those 2 series have it right there. Not very imaginative or anything but still the best because they have the real music.
