Blu-ray has the bigger library.
Not really, the have just about equal librarys at this point.
That is definitely not true. Blu-ray has far more movies available for its format than HD-DVD. Not only that, but it has a far better balance between classic and new movies. And besides, it has far more movies in its forseable future, as all of the major movie studios except universal and two others are making movies exclusively for the Blu-ray format. That includes Disney, Fox, Columbia and more.
As for your question as to why you need so much space for movies... wrong. Dead wrong. To fit a movie on an HD-DVD you have to use a DUAL-LAYER DVD. High-definition video eats up space extremely fast. In fact, 10 minutes of 1080p quality video is about 2 gigs. This is also why we will never see Youtube using HD-quality videos... it would take far too long to load.

Well let’s look at it this way. The Blu ray and HD dvd use almost the exact same technology. The main difference is the amount of content stored in one disk. Obviously Blu ray can hold more, but why would you need 50 gigs to store a movie on a disk? I’d say for an HD movie 10 gigs should be enough (correct me if I’m wrong). Plus, HD is cheaper. About 300 bucks cheaper.
blu ray and hd dvd use quite different technology actually, hd dvd is just a dvd with more space, but blu ray uses a blu laser and the layers are placed in a different spot so you cannot scratch the disc or ruin it with finger prints there are other differences but im not an expert on the technology
