It’s wonderfully dark and complex. I love it. Great projection too.
Hmm so you can play different stuff now that you have it right? I wish I knew what each one of these sounded like so I could distinguish whats being played when I listen to the actual music.
I suppose so, but the choice of crash cymbal doesn’t make much of an impact on what type of music you play. The choice of Ride cymbal has a bigger effect though. It’s hard to explain.
For example, I use a Paragon Ride which sounds like this. You can hear each individual stick hit, right? And there’s very little wash. This makes it perfect for rock and metal.
However, I couldn’t use it for Jazz; it would just be out of place. Something more like this, a HHX Manhattan Jazz Ride, would be more suitable, as it’s got a good degree of wash, which makes a kind of background noise that Jazz artists build their sound upon.
With those two clips, the more 'pingy', louder sounds you hear are hits on the 'bell' of the cymbal.
And just for reference, here’s sound clips of a few other basic cymbals:
Crash - HHX 17” Studio Crash
Splash - HHX 10” Splash
Chinese or China - HHX 20” China
Obviously, cymbal sounds vary massively between brands and lines within brands. Some sound like trashcan lids, some are awesome. It takes a long time and a lot of playing to be able to tell the difference between some though.

Hmm I see what you are saying. Thanks for sharing that.
