I realize that; what I’m saying is that many “big-name” thrash bands of the 90’s were sucked into the “groove” trend, and the consequent popularity of the genre pushed thrash even further underground (well, and the thrash scene sort of died out as well). Sure, there’s examples of thrash with elements of groove that’s done right (see Vio-Lence - Nothing to Gain), but generally speaking, groove is just watered-down thrash with elements of bad hardcore or nu-metal or what have you. This is a bit off topic, but even today the number of good thrash metal bands is fairly low. Then you have bands like Fueled by Fire who are more concerned about denouncing posers than making good music. Whatever, that’s just my two cents.
Ah. Well Thrash has gotten back up a bit. Slayer, Metallica, and Megadeth are helping bring it back up. Tons of kids have been getting into thrash through them.
Well, I’ve always seen Metallica and Slayer as the two “token metal bands” that everybody knows. I quite like Slayer, but they’ve been shit for a while; God Hates Us All and Christ Illusion were basically nu-metal.
So tell me Coleslaw, what’s your take on Nu Metal?

Lol, I believe I heard that somewhere on Metal-Archives. Manowar are so manly they make their own condoms!
Yeah, that thread was hilarious; I’ll try to track it down tomorrow.

I can’t stand any of it, and view it as an affront to heavy metal.

I second that.
I triple. I used to be in that shit, but once Coleslaw (I know him in real life) gave me a nice dose of Thrash Metal, Death Metal, and Black Metal, I forgot what Nu Metal even is.
@Darth Oni Nihilus - you should read the comments for the Holy Diver video, they’re hilarious.

However, Korn still has a place in my heart...
Now that I can agree on. Korn is one of the exceptions for me.

I dont know, there is just something about Korn that I like. The emotion in their songs is great. It is not like your typical nu metal where all you hear is people screaming at the top of their lungs profanity in an attempt to sound hardcore.

Metallica is not that extreme of a band really.
I know. It just gets me in the mood from time to time. What did you think of the song I posted earlier?
I liked it. I am not the biggest Pantera fan, but I do like alot of their stuff. That song was pretty cool. I like their song “Walk” the best.
Oh god I hate Walk so much. In fact, I can’t stand any material by Pantera; I haven’t listened to their power metal album though. While I certainly don’t like the music at all, but my hatred for Pantera stems from the fact that the whole groove trend (in addition to over-saturation) pretty much killed thrash in the 90’s.
