True religion supporting has been on a decline ever since it really got to its peak. Um more today you don’t see many true followers were religion effects there entire life, aside where theocracies are run. Most people today are simply self-proclaimed *insert religion* instead of actual followers. And most people’s actions today really are hypocritical to what their self proclaimed religion is.

In this day and age I think we are coming to a time where we don’t need religion or things like that to really give us hope. Religions main selling point so to speak back in the day is it gave the majority, people in poverty, a hope to one day be equals to the rich. Religion has never been for the rich just kinda spread that way. Religion really could be stated as created to keep slave uprisings or poor people from revolting against the rich and “mighty”.

And nowadays in places like America and Europe where you see the least amount of religion playing into everyday life, you also notice these aren’t huge poverty central countries and where really the majority is of middle class. So religion serves no purpose anymore as everyone has a life that at least they can live with some contentness.

So religion’s entire ideal of making everyone immortal and making people feel equal to the people with better class situations dies. And that’s why religion is fading. Religion isn’t needed for that purpose anymore in these kinda areas and so it becomes lost. So over time sooner or later today’s religion will fade with times and science.

At least that’s my take.

I remember reading a part in The God Delusion that there are much more atheists in America than people realize. Atheists in America outnumber Jews by a wide margin. I looked it up and couldn’t find a direct poll, but I found this

http://richarddawkins.net/article,117,A-Challenge-to-Atheists-come-out-of-the-closet,Richard-Dawkins

The problem is that since atheists are the least trusted minority, some atheists feel intimidated to actual admit it. After all, we live in one of the most religious countries in the world, not to mention atheists are the least trusted in America.

But imagine what it would be like if atheists correctly organized themselves. People would actually understand that we’re people just like everyone else, we might be more trusted, myths and bigotry about us would fade away, and maybe the Constitution will actually be upheld in terms of separation of church and state.

Most people won’t admit beind different frome the assumed majority. America is full of bias and discrimination so I could understand that.

The problem is that our invisibility helps perpetuate myths and suspicion about us.

Most religions don’t refer to themselves as theism. Just saying...

I like this question.

Haha, even though I don’t have an answer.

I’m thinking along the same lines as most here, in that religion in general is on the decline in terms of direct influence of everyday lives.

But I also recognize the resurgence of religion, not only in middle eastern countries, or the missionary missions to African countries (which I’m against by the way...but that’s another topic), but also in the 'Western' countries.

With religion on the decline there’s bound to be (and already has been) a reaction to that. Christianity in many cases seems threatened almost. They either take the route of modernizing, or they become more fundamentalist, trying to hold on the their “roots”.

So, I dunno, I guess I’m saying anything could happen. It really depends on the major events in the future I think. It could be that for whatever reason “pure” atheism is deemed to have failed humanity and there is a newer more philosophical following that occurs. I mean, religious thought seems to have been around for ever, in almost every human civilization. Maybe it’s hard wired into us.

I personally think that as time goes on Religion will go downhill in popularity, though there will be some religios people. But philosphies like Nihilism, Atheism, Agnostic, and LeVayanism will replace religion as we know it.

Theory does not mean an unsubstantiated guess or hunch, as it can in everyday speech. A theory is a logically self-consistent model or framework for describing the behavior of a related set of natural or social phenomena.

That’s cause over there they run theocracies. Places like Isreal and the Middle East are places where religion and government are one. Really there aren’t to many places in Europe or lots of parts of Asia that are run by theocracies.

Also take note of how shitty the Middle-East is.

Hmm... Soviet Russia was Atheistic, wasn’t that a fucking paradise?

What gives you the authority to say what’s a shit country and what’s not anyway? You come from the USA! Hahahahahahahahahaha.

Except the The Soviets problems had absolutely nothing to do with their “lack of belief” in a god or gods. What did cause problems though was the systematic annihilation of anyone with a outspoken difference of opinion or beliefs that what was set in stone. The same problems occur no matter what religion/philosophy/ideology is in power and iron-fistedly makes everyone comply.

The biggest point is that the way the citizens were treated and the condition of the country had nothing to do with atheism as an adopted philosophy.

If one were to blame atheism for the condition for Soviet Russia, then be prepared for the argument that Christianity played a large part in the Nazi movement...

I’m just saying that the problems in the Middle East aren’t exclusively to do with religious people, not that Soviet Russia’s problems were due to it being Atheistic. It’s a comparison. And I don’t really need to be prepared for anyone saying Christianity played a large part in the Nazi movement... though that statement does seem to imply I’m Christian. Actually, a part of the Nazi movement and philosophy was to do with evolution (for a note that is NOT an argument against Darwainists as all wars begin for more than one reason, I myself believe in evolution, it’s just true is all).
