I think that HD DVD has the upper hand as Blue RAy has been hacked ...TWICE, with their new Anti piracy code BD+ which is a stronger remake of the one originally introduced onto blue ray discs being recently rendered as defensive as a new born kitten.
This new code not only got hacked early, but in sony’s attempt to fortify its defenses, it also caused havoc for legitimate buyers of Blue ray media as this new layer of protection caused much playback problems on Blue ray media players and dvd players.
Thousands were left with discs that wouldn’t play until a few weeks later when firmware updates were released.
The final shovel of dirt of the grave of this recent balls up is that Paramount Picture studios whom previously supported both formats has decided to go HD DVD only after sony’s fuck up.
I think Sony is making a rod for its own back with Blue Ray. Not only are there more compulsory measures a movie studio must take when publishing on Blue ray media, the punters are scared of laying out cost for the movies a there is no guarantee that sony wont up the encryption again and render another million of legitimate movie discs into a nice expensive set of coasters.
They may have a bigger capacity disc, but if they keep stumbling over those hurdles, they are gonna loose the race.
My moneys on HD DVD as the next Gen format and the bookies tell me its a good bet.

Um. Blu-Ray Players are getting cheaper and cheaper. and since when do Blu-Ray players barely work? they are more reliable then HD-DVD anyways.
i admit ps3 and blu ray are COOL but they have too many problems. so when i say future ps3 owner i mean when they iron out all the kinks
HD-DVD was my choice out of conveniencey. However, I will have a Blu-ray player this Christmas as well so I’m covered no matter which way the format battles go. Yay for me! *Said without enthusiasm*
