Gigantic masses of Fire. Hey, it’s the tried and true way to cook a cow in 0.75 seconds!

Time to get mythical with this week’s competition. Dragons!

Now I’m looking for some really awesome sigs this week people. The last competition was bad, so let’s get ta cooking this time. (pun fully intended)








THEME: Dragons

TIME FRAME: 4 days to make it and 3 days for voting.

SIZE: up to 500x300.

Voting starts in 4 days.

So end date for entries is midnight Thursday the 6th of December.

Voting goes from 1 minute past midnight Thursday till midnight Sunday December 9th.

Not really.

Its really cheap if you know the render he has used. all the work was already done for him pretty much, he just adjusted the brightness/contrast and brightened up the image a bit, added a few touches and presto..cool looking dragon sig.

Actually, it’s not brightness/contrast, I created a background and blended the render into it some, I think I used the hard light blend, but I can’t really remember completely. It took me about an hour to do, and most of that time was spend on creating a background that blended right. But now that you mention it, I probably could have altered the color, brightness, and contrast and got nearly the same effect. But in order to get the different shades across the render I would have needed to do a bit more work...

And I was thinking about cutting most of the fire out of the render, but in the end it didn’t look nearly as good.

But I wouldn’t necessarily call it cheap. =/

One of the main power points is the head, and its blended too much into the fire. Too random, I guess, for my tastes.

I still love it though. At the very least, the fire fits the whole render very well, as it should.

And its far from cheap...

What he’s saying is that I apparently didn’t put much work into it... =/

Which is true as far as the render is concerned. I didn’t modify the render much. Just cropped it and added a layer mask to it to blend it more smoothly into the background.



Most of the fire was already in the render.

Ah, I see.

I mean, adding a buncha effects doesn’t mean shit...

Yeah, it can be nice, but isn’t always necessary. Finding a render that has what it needs and only modifying colors or whatnot for an effect of sorts can be just as effective, and smart, as using the most advanced of techniques.

I put a lot of work into the signature... It just... All that work was put into creating the background for the rend to be placed on. I don’t modify my renders unless they don’t fit what I want... Your Haruhi signature has nothing done to the render. The entire art of the sig is how she looks with the background. I’m sure most of the work anybody does on a signature isn’t on the render but rather on the background of it.

Without the background I created, this is what the signature looks like.



As you can see... It looks like crap, because all the work that makes it look good, was in the special created background.

But most of the effects are actually in the render.

The ones that catch the eye are, at least.

The rest helps, yes. I mean, white background is boring.

But I’m not saying its a bad thing. And you did edit the render, at least its tone.

lol.. That render above with the white background is exactly how it appears in my signature. Those aren’t edits on the render, that’s blending with the background.

Well, whatever you did, you made the render darker in the final one.

Funny, I say a buncha stuff about effects, and here I am making my sig all effecty...
