Perhaps the people with the higher post count can be the ones that can view when the mods are online. You figure the ones that have been on this site the longest are the ones least likely to want to lose their account because they are less likely the ones to abuse the rules. That way people like Read This If Your Stupid can’t see when the mods are online because he uses accounts with about 200 posts.

Thats always been my idea as well. But I think it would be kinda hard to implant, and not all high-posted members are good.
Well what I had thought of a few times is let moderators choose if they want to be shown that they are online. Maybe as an experiment too, to keep the spammers guessing if there are any mods on or not. -shrugs-

There’s no way to tell, just by looking at names, who a mod is or isn’t. So, even if we did show whether or not a mod is online, a spammer wouldn’t know the difference. This contrasts VBullitin and such, where mods and administrators are color coded.
So, based on that, hiding a mod’s status, if anything, will make a spammer want to spam. Why? They are more likely to assume there are no mods on. That’s when you get disgusting crap. I know that for a fact too, because that’s how I’ve seen it happen. No mods are on, the spammer realizes (or assumes, which would be our case) this, and does the spamming.
Of course, they could easily figure no mods are on even if their names are shown, because there is nothing which differentiates the two.
Spammers will attack when there is no opposition. And, likely, they will assume there is none when they don’t see it.
Of course, they’ll be in for a surprise, but hell, that doesn’t matter.
Having said that, there isn’t any real benefit in showing a mod’s online status anyway, since the report feature is for all mods to see and I don’t think they want to be stalked.
I believe before we used to have a list of who were moderators at the time. Perhaps bringing that back may be something to try, no?
Doesn’t necessarily have to do with the online status being shown, but at least it would easily sort it out as to who’s a mod and whatnot.

That’s a good idea, I actually think it would be a polite thing to show that your on line, All tho I do see that sometimes it pays to be hidden. I think mods should be given the chows. I also think members should be as well. You do on other forums.
Also has any one noteset all the random members that’s on line right now. I have a feeling that somethings about to happen.
